When I started working for my Dads company and was learning to drive, he still had one of these Smiley face (as they were known in the U.K.) Transits - I used to practice in it before I passed my test and then was straight away driving it long distance 🤣. It was on a ‘W’ plate so one of the very last for this model. Agreed about being bulletproof- the rust will kill the bodywork long before the mechanicals are ready to give up.

@@Cemilodmir Yes, the name Transit goes way back in time to the 50’s and originates from Germany. It was used for a van based greatly on the 50’s Ford Taunus. The name was adopted for the British version of the Ford van. And that version and its successors became icons. In such a way that what is the VW Transporter for Germany, the Transit is for Britain. Perhaps you’ve heard this: “Transit, the van that made Britain”. A very wise decision Ford made for adopting the name. The British predecessor of the Transit was the Thames van. A van of similar size like the Taunus/Transit van but there the resemblances end.
