Just wanted to drop in with a comment. The Prideful Goat 6 years cask strength bourbon has just dropped in Canada and I got my bottle yesterday. My opinion after my first glass: extremely satisfied. I really liked it, a great cask strength bourbon with just the right amount of spice (more pepper than sweet spices) and a very long finish! Great work picking the barrel for that first batch and I can't wait to discover more bottles!

@@clydekimsey7503 We are not quit large enough for that yet, and our price point makes it a bad prospect for that size. Pints are usually for cheap bottles that people pop in and buy while they are on the road, or for highly allocated items. Our pint would be pretty expensive not having a line of people to buy them, and I fear our wholesalers and their customers the retailers would not want to buy them.

There's a lot on the bar I've not yet been able to try. 🙂 2:18 Knob Creek may be my favorite bourbon. I have to run an experiment to be sure, but at the very least it's in contention. And here it's not too expensive - my current bottle was only $29.99. 6:02 I can't find Benchmark here, which is really frustrating because everyone has good things to say about it. 10:49 This is good stuff, and very affordable. 16:05 And the same is true of Elijah Craig. Plus Heaven Hill is the largest family owned bourbon distillery in the country - the Shapira family hasn't sold out to any international liquor conglomerate. 🙂

It wasn't too long ago, early May, I picked up the Knob Creek 9 for $22 at Costco. Now, even crazier, same run, I got a bottle of Knob Creek Rye for $18. Unbelievable. Additional: Good call on the no name bottle. I felt into that trap early on...at Total Wine, of course. Learned my lesson. There are 1000s of videos and reviews on Whiskey tube. Take a little time to see what people are saying. Even if you don't agree with them. Great vid, guys!

Knob Creek was how I got started on bourbon. Way back in the 1990s, when the premium small batch bourbons were just starting to be introduced to the market, a friend recommended it. Back then, there weren't all that many choices available in most markets, and Knob Creek was one of the best that was widely available. There was only one version of Knob Creek. I don't remember if it had the 9-year age statement from the start, or if that came later. Nowadays, there are numerous choices out there, and the bourbon boom has caused some products to be overhyped, so the situation is more confusing than it once was. I agree with the choices presented in this video. Exploring the major legacy distilleries is a good way to start. However, it is just a start, and many people become curious about other options. There is a whole world of craft and regional bourbon out there. Style and quality are highly variable, and these can be expensive because they don't have the economy of scale of the big guys. Hidden gems can be found, but it is best to try before you buy. I have a preference for booze that is a bit funky and challenging, so this segment of the market is where I have found my favorite bottles, but the hard core crafty stuff isn't for everybody. Also, the independent bottlers who source from MGP, Barton, Dickel, and others are doing some interesting things with blending and finishing in different types of barrels. These are also worth exploring, but again, quality and style are variable, and some are overpriced for what they deliver, so it is best to try before you buy. Opportunities to try bourbon and other whiskies will vary depending on where you live. Whisky bars, local distilleries and independent bottlers, stores that offer tastings, and whisky-loving friend groups are all potentially good options.

I agree with you all regarding the Old Forester 1920 - That's probably one of my top favorite Bourbons. It's one of two Bourbons I usually keep 2 bottles on hand - Weller Reserve is my other. For finish, I have found Joseph Magnus to be outstanding. Both the Magnus and the Cigar.

These are a lot of the same bottles I have started with! Knob Creek 12 is very good. WT 101 is a great mixer or standalone. Elijah Craigh I'm still looking for. Four Roses I'm trying to understand the bottle numbers before I dive into that. 1792 Full Proof I would like to find or at least try. Old Grand-Dad 114 is a mixer I'd like to find. Heaven Hill Bottled-In-Bond 7 year is on my radar too. The only allocated bottles I concern myself with is ER 10 yr and BT whenever I see it. Pretty strange that I started with Polish Vodka, moved into Scotch and Irish whiskey and am currently in Bourbon!

It is just the economy for brands buying high age barrels from producers that have their own brands to release those barrels through. If you want 1792 to give up their barrels, they will only do it if they are going to make enough additional money to cover what they would have made in profit and equity growth releasing it through their own brand. This added cost is passed on to KO, who adds on their margin, and that cost plus margin is passed on to the wholesaler, it increases state taxes, and then the wholesaler adds on their margin and passes it onto the retailer, who in turn adds on their margin. On average, increasing production cost $1 adds $2.99 to the final product for the consumer. As long as people are buying the KO, they will keep paying the barrel premium to 1792. Hope that makes sense.

Guys I need advice. I traveled on business. I have never ordered bourbon at a bar. At hotel bar they only had bourbons I have already tried. So I ordered a Angel Envy Rye. My coworker offered to add it to his tab. In front of the bar tender I told my friend that it was a $100 bottle and it might be higher in price so I would pay. After I was 1/4 thru the pour the bar tender comes to table and tells me yes that pour was more than he thought and it’s $20 a pour. Does this sound correct or did the bartender rip me off?

The main components of the 4R profile are fruity and floral. The other whiskey that comes to mind that has a fruity and floral profile is MGP (Now Ross and Squibb). You could get a Remus bourbon, but there are many other non distillery producers who bottle their whiskey, and many of them are higher age than Remus. I would recommend a Penelope or a Smokewagon. You could also grab a bottle of my brand The Prideful Goat. All of the are MGP.

If you think I think it is terrible, but I let them sponsor the show anyway, you don't know me. I love the whiskey. I helped them get nationwide shipping and distribution in Texas. If you don't like the whiskey that is fine. I will say I sent out blind sample packs with Bookers, Rare Breed, McKinna 10 year, and Calumet 16, and the JT Meleck finished barely behind Bookers and Rare Breed. So I can definitely say you are in the minority on your opinion. Fred Minnick also loved it as well as Jason from Mash and Drum.
