Hi. Can you tell is what size the notebook is and about the cover? Sorry if I missed it.

Hey! The notebook is a Midori MD, originally in an A5 size, cut down to fit the Traveler’s Notebook Standard Cover. :)

there's nothing wrong in loosing interest in experimenting. To a certain degree, experimenting can also lead to a sort of anxiety and a form of obsession. Plus, i like your videos cause they are more like a virtual track of your personality rather than a showcase of pens, inks and papers.

While the experimention phase of the journey can add some welcome excitement (perhaps heightened enthusiasm is nearer the mark) it comes somewhat as a drag on both finances and productivity. But when we mature into our final kit of those key pens, those key inks, and that primary notebook/paper system, our sense of self can be heightened with the satisfaction of reaching what we know know to be a carefully considered and personally curated writing kit, our focus can finally return confidently to the task at hand, and we can arrive at our most productive selves -- wiser for the journey and having a calm settled sense of mastery over our personal kit. Another nice video... it's helpful nourishment for my sense of well being to see lovely people who are generous enough to share a small taste of their own lovely day with strangers like me. Cheers!

I love Midori paper so much. I'm currently using an A5 lined Midori MD notebook. FYI: Traveler's Company inserts, unless otherwise specified, are also made with Midori MD paper. Most of them use white MD paper instead of cream, but otherwise it's the same paper. They also make a plain cream MD paper insert; and all of their planner inserts - both the dated and date-free versions - are made with cream MD paper. That said, I totally get why you'd want to have a thicker notebook/insert for your main journal. I feel the same way. I use my Traveler's Notebooks for other things: one is a sort of catch-all life planner; one is a place where I record creative activities that aren't writing: pens and inks, knitting projects, guitar practice, etc.The third is where I record my creative writing progress and keep reading notes about the creative writing books and fiction that I read for study instead of just for pleasure. :)

VERY interesting observation that, initially, we experiment more in our pen-ink-paper adventure, but the experimentation is actually a pathway seeking the perfect kit. That's poorly paraphrased, but I think that's essentially what you said. Lately, I've been thinking the same thing and it really describes my own p-i-p adventure. It also explains (sort of) why I have so many different pens, inks and papers. I'm now settling in on two browns, a couple dark blues and, for occasional variety, one or two greens. The rest mostly sit idly by. Well done, Alicia -- and thanks!

I am a real tart and I love different pens and different inks. But in 2022 I am going to slow down and savour what I have. My wife bought be a Diplomat Aero for Christmas, which I am excited about. I might get a platinum 3776 for my birthday, but that will be it. I am loving my platinum Prefountes at the moment. They’re so cheap and so much fun. I love to eye dropper fill them.

I think there is a beauty in finding your beloved. That’s what I call them! I know personally my beloved journal is the trusty and reliable A5 Black Leuchtturm1917. I’m still in that explorative journey portion of finding the perfect pen, being a fountain pen newbie myself. So I’m sifting. KZitem channels like yours, (big fan love your content hehe) and Reddits have been so helpful, so I definitely think that a time of exploration is key! It’ll make finding the perfect combinations all the more satisfying 🥰

I always enjoy seeing your currently inked lineup, and you're making me want to grab another Midori notebook...I took a break from it for an A5 LAMY grid notebook, which I love...well, loved...some of them have better papers than others, but the Midori never disappoints! Thanks for sharing!

I think you're right about not wanting to experiment when you got your tune. When I got my Kaweco Brass, my search for perfect fountain pen just stop. I'm very satisfied with Brass (I named him Brass) and yeah. That's pretty much it. Or maybe I'll buy one Twsbi Eco next just to complete the collection.

My wife and I are one year into our journaling/fountain pen experience. We both have found our comfort area, our happy spot in all things pens/nibs/inks and journals. One year in and I’m comfortable enough to STOP buying inks! 🙂 my go to combination after sampling countless inks is… Iroshizuku yama-guri in my TWSBI 580 Rose Gold (F) , Herbin Rouge Grenat in my TWSBI 580 Rose (XF) and Pilot Namiki Blue in my Pilot Custom 823 (F). I use Leuchtturm 1917 exclusively after sampling plenty of other papers. Of course all cozied up in a Galen Leather pen/journal case… I don’t think I have any regrets in my many purchases this year, I think it’s a necessary path one takes to find, as you say, the preferred combination of ink/pen/journal. Thank you kindly for being a constant source of inspiration when it comes to this hobby/passion. Have a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.

It’s such a gorgeous creamy paper! I started writing/journaling exclusively in cursive in 2020 and the A5 midori dot grid was what I started with. I’m almost through my current A5 Leuchtturm and have been wanting to go back to Midori. ☺️

Ah Lina that’s so awesome! I grew up ambidextrous but as I got older my left hand became more dominant. Getting into fountain pen‘s now, I realize that it’s not the most left-hand friendly hobby. I’ve been learning cursive for my right hand! Definitely a 2022 goal of mine!

Merry Christmas from Australia. I don't think I will ever stop looking for the ultimate fountain pen, unlike you, I feel very uncomfortable with using expensive paper for my jottings and so on. Good paper is reserved for letters. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to more of your posts.

This week I picked my one and only paper for drawing: Strathmore Series 300 Bristol Board. Crisp lines and saturated, dark colors. No bleed through ever. Stiff. Penwise I've picked my EF and my superstub: Platinum Carbon Ink/Desk Pen and Pilot Parallel 3.8. I'll need to add in a few in between. Inks I'm still struggling with, but one certainty is Noodler's Baystate Blue. Nothing compares.

For the first time in a very long time, I’m not using a TN diary as I’m trying something else. It will be strange to me to only have one book in my TN. Am starting to sell off some unused gear as well. That will please the wife as the tiny space behind our sofa looks like a library! 😂 Thx for the update Alicia. As always, shout outs to Bryon, Fig & Bean 👍🏻🙂

That new setup looks fab! I love the thickness of the notebook, I have yet to try Midori paper. I’m still in the tasting phase. My lovely Pilot Custom 823 is inked with Diamine’s Writer’s Blood and I think it’s too wet of an ink for that pen, it makes the writing look fatter and it’s harder to control. Andrew has been telling me to try Taccia inks, but I’m not sure which colour. :)

Awwww, love the 2nd setup of the covers! Happy mistakes, accidents! Find joy and encouragement in these little moments Alicia! So glad you are one of those that trim off the notebooks to fit the 21x11 of the TN! :D Just wondering, what will you do with the trimmings? I used them for scrap note taking. I too, am one of those, that once, I find that "perfect" combination of pen and ink, (excluding paper), I will stick to it and not willing to go further. Ultimately, we should just enjoy this journey with it's imperfections. Cheers!

Hi Alicia! How did you cut your Midori MD A5 at FedEx? The manual paper cutting machine had the capacity for the whole notebook so that you could cut in one slice? My point is, do you think it is possible to do it at home with a smaller machine (I do not have any FedEx/stores around me that could potentially have manual paper cutting machines)? Thank you so much (because I do have the same conundrum about the TN Midori inserts not being "official" enough) 🥰

I love this video so much. I am also just over all the experimenting and want things to be my norm. The thing with fountain pens is i am unrealistically so afraid the ink is going to leak in my bag so i never bring it with me or use them. 🤦🏻♀️

I have the opposite view. The friends I have in the fountain pen world explore and experiment as much now as they ever did, and often more and more and more as their finances improve with age. I look for the perfect notebook, the perfect pen, and the perfect ink, but, frankly, when exploration and experimentation stop, the inevitable result is stagnation
