I came here for a nice solid “no” 🙂 thank you. I’ll be 1 month on 2/22/22. And I started them bc I wanted to let go of the tight control I had on “needing” my hair to look a certain way and having an unhealthy relationship with my hair especially if it doesn’t come out “perfect”. Now 1 month in I was contemplating on taking my twists down to do diamond parting (going right back to that unhealthy control on my hair). It’s about to be a journey fr 😅 but I’m ready! I'm so happy I came across this video. You are amazing and I felt like this video spoke directly to me. I have been driving myself crazy on how I want my parting for my upcoming new loc journey appt. But when I heard you say "locs are like life and life is not perfect". That hit home for me.I had to focus on the reasons why I am getting locs and to know that my locs will have a life of themselves through me and my growth, why worry myself so much about parting and restrict or limit myself to only thinking about the parts. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. You ROCK!!!

I didn’t start mine for strictly fashion purposes... I could careless about retwisting often but wen I do retwist or want a style I absolutely want my hair to be right! My last set was just doing wat ever and i wanted thicker locs then began to realize that yea... my hair isn’t made for thicker locs and how it was “parted” i couldn’t do shit with them... I tried and I just didn’t like them... So yea... If you have to ask this question jus go ahead and start them over... I’m getting a new set installed by a loctician next week and I’m making sure I get EXACTLY what I want... You can still be spiritual and have “pretty/neat/fashion” locs... the loc community can be worse than the loose natural community a lot of times. And at the end of the day it is just hair... so much can happen to our hair... it’s not healthy to be so attached to something like hair.... knowing this is apart of spiritual growth.

I started my locs because I just didn't want to comb my hair anymore. I could tell that my hair "wanted" to loc by what I would experience after shamp, LOL! My parts are not pristine, nor are all of the sections evenly sized. However, I was VERY intentional about the sizing based on the density of the hair in a particular area. This is my second set of locs, and the first ones were started via interlocking and were very small. I knew that I didn't want locs that small this go around, so it took me about 3 months of experimentation to get the sizing and maintenance right, and I have been loc'd for 3 months. Like you, there are places where new locs are being formed, and I am going with it. It feels great!

@@lola4664 also remember, caring TOO much about your parts & retwisting can thin out the loc. Sometimes i see ppl with locs and all you can see is their scalp and a long skinny loc. There is something beautiful about getting less retwist and just letting your hair do what it wants. It also creates a fullness-thats something i am realizing now that i don't get retwist like that. retwisting isn't what locs your hair, it just keeps your hair looking half decent as your locs are maturing. You hair will locs eventually. The roots will loc last the ends will loc first. That's why if you see ppl with very mature locs, they barely have to get a retwist ALSO when they do get a retwist, it's easier for them.
