Well I also have a long special tool I need to turn these other valves deep in the ground and nobody is telling about those. So aggravating. I've done all of this and still sprinklers won't come on. I just don't get it.

These systems are all different. Yes there are similarities. But he is speaking about specific details, not generalities. Many are not in the yard and not even under ground

should be within 5 feet of your main valve for the house by the street. poke around with a tent stake or screw driver. mine was 5 inches beneath dirt and grass

my sprinkler system doesnt have any valves like that. it has the main water shut off and one valve that you can open or close. but when I open it...water starts coming into the ground hole. dont think that is supposed to happen. Its an old system maybe? cant seem to find anyone that can tell me what to do with it. maybe youve seen one like that?

You should never blow air through your backflow assembly using the test cocks. I can’t tell if it’s an RP or DC. Either way it shouldn’t be installed in the ground. Cmon guys!

Just FYI to the public you have to also turn on the main valve for the sprinkler system inside your house (usually in the basement). There are other videos that show how to do this. Typically there is a valve for the whole house and then a 2nd handle or valve for the sprinkler system. I think you're supposed to leave this green cover valves closed while you turn those on inside the house. Then come up to the yard, and follow the video instructions above. Just FYI I am not an expert by any means just a homeowner who noticed a major miss in this video.

Remember to close those little metal valves before opening the blue ones as he instructed in the video above. You don't want water spraying everywhere. Blue valves in the green box are last!

You should also never open valves that fast just slowly fill the system to avoid water hammer and most systems in the Midwest where I am have vacuum breakers somewhere on the outside of the house or an rp like in this video in the basement not a valve box

I’ve never heard of a system where you turn off the water and drain the lines.

Where do you live? If you live in the north where it gets cold, people will do that because if it gets cold enough, the water that remains in the line can freeze, and therefore expand, and crack your sprinkler system pipes.

@@benjamincoon3158 Northern California, we usually only have to worry about pipes above ground, or if pipes are super shallow, like an inch. But unless someone screwed up, pipes that shallow are rare.

@cdarting91 That makes since. I'm in the Boise area, and while a lot of people do blow out their sprinkler lines each fall (most people speak like you have to or else they will freeze) my parents haven't done it once or only did it the first couple of years and then stopped over the course of the almost 30 years they've been homeowners.

@@benjamincoon3158 And out above ground sprinkler control valves are safe all winter as long as you cover them. Normally when a sprinkler head blows off around here it’s just because it’s old and the water pressure was too much for it anymore. Lmao. In fact, it’s about time to start doing inspections on our sprinklers for the summer, and I know some of them need to be replaced. Lol.

I'm from Eastern north Nebraska and we do this too .leave the outside valves turned 45 degree so it drips not to freeze
