The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzitem.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

To prevent your hard baits from breaking so easily; 1)first remove all hooks and hardware,2)cover the entire lure with fingernail clear polish harder, overnight to dry good; 3)dip the whole lure in polyurethane, let it dry overnight and your done. I guarantee it will make a lot of difference and less breakage. Good fishing Texas 7

Gar and bowfin are the two most abundant annoying large predatory fish in the river (Oggeechee River) where I fish here in S. Georgia. I don't think I've noticed the blue mouth bowfin. However during spawning season (February here) the tail and fins will take on a beautiful orange color on the males, especially the smaller males. Most of our gar here are the long nose type. Whatever tackle you are using is pretty much gone when you hook one of them. It's a fun fight when they don't cut the line with those teeth right away.

We had a tunnel just like this growing up it was a run off creek from a huge Huge tire plant and dumped in the Des Moines River so it was always always full of bait or full of real fish one tunnel was always closed so only one was rushing like yours . I caught thousands of fish in there ! 100s of thousands if you counted all the shad we seined and sold to the bait houses I remember it was 20.00 per 5 gallon bucket made tons of fishing money , Coleman fuel hooks sinkers bait ditty poles it was a phenomenal fishing area and a great swimming hole on those 100 degrees days and 65% humidity! I swear it saved my best buddy and me once we were in fish the gravel pit beside the creek and huge storm blew up hail the size of golf balls then we ran for tunnel and soon it was baseball sized and the wind was like a tornado but we survived thanks too that old tunnel !
