Everyone should listen to Basma. We can all learn from her, everyone who has been displaced or has had to emigrate or ask for asylum will feel her words in their bones. I am inspired to move WITH my fellows, have confidence in my community which is very mixed here in UK, and not work against my self or against my fellows. I work in healthcare and I see all kinds of consequences of conflict and oppression. But I also see courage and tenacity. I am grateful for all these voices and influences.

Samood, sawood, shame we don't have a word for it. I have had traumatic experiences in my live, and I have been a victim, and understand that you can not stay in the feeling of being a victim, feeling sorry for yourself stops you from being strong, and strength you need. Depression for instance , nobody is depressed in survival mode, you just can not afford it, and you would be a burden on your surroundings, taking away their strength. Depression is a rich-men's disease. I always get told that I am so strong, I do not see myself that way, after all I had no choice. What I do see is a lot of people think of themselves as being stronger then others, they never got their strength challenged though, they were never forced to be strong. And this idea of being better then others is also a rich-men's disease. We will all be strong, and we will all be weak, circumstances make us react, and when we look at ourselves realistically, and not with a self-image, we can change weakness into strength.

Thank you for this interview. One of the things that infuriates me is the patronizing way the western leaders want to decide for themselves what will happen to the Palestinian people without talking to even one palestinian. It is the epitome of entitlement of an attitude of superiority they do not do it. The only Arabs they will deal with are the richest ones that have something they need. They never speak with women. I have thought during this 7 month horror, that leaders, old white men, are completely inept in this situation. In an ideal world for Gaza a group of gazans should be chosen to decide what their future should be, like 10 women and 10 men or more, doctors engineers teachers administrators tradespeople etc from all professions. It shouldn't be just a dream to be able to self determine a future.

Palestinians have become a symbol for the horrific injustice of the world order and the dystopian place that history has taken us all. In this way, they have become a symbol for all humanity and all humans who value life and truth and justice. So much respect for taking back agency and refusing to lose their humanity. All hope is born of despair. This is not romanticism, it is survival and retrieving ones agency, humanity, dignity and truth at the deepest level and I honour and respect all Palestinians and of the diaspora for theur incredible courage and depth of underdtanding if what it means to be human. Their grief and loss and unbelievable strength also needs to be recognised and gives hope for the future survival of Palestinians and humanity itself. To paraphrase Nelson Mandela, Humanity will not be free until the Palestinians are free. This is a lesson in how NOT to harden oneself into a victim identity and a lesson especually to the zionists and all humans who embrace the ideology of victimhood and use it to perpetuate fear and hate how to understand that to be fully human we have to know ourselves through our suffering as humans wuth a deeoer truth. Refusing the ideology of victimhood for our suffering as humabs allows us to know all earth as our home and our humaness as our true identity.

Overall, it is important for people to hear that it is also possible to reduce their own helplessness by working for others and by informing people. "Among the limited opportunities that unfortunately often exist for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and also in Lebanon, you do have a bit of freedom to do something - for others.

Her decision to avoid a victim label attachment despite her circumstances is the greatest form of power and reliance that should be admired specially in a world that people pride themselves to bring misery upon themselves and their society by ignoring their god-given privileges and commit atrocities under the false coverings of "victimhood" ........... This lady is a perfect example of what placing your hope and trust in the highest power -- The Lord -- and choose not to let the evil that you unjustly experienced penetrate your soul with the darkness of despair can result in the life of an individual! Assalamu Alaikum! I love the Palestinian people! ❤ 🇵🇸 Palestinians are the salt of the earth! Palestinian resistance, their steadfastness, their implicit faith in the face of ethnic cleansing, genocide, apartheid, starvation, oppression, injustice, is an inspiration to the world. Ma'sha Allah. My daughter, who I am so proud of, is half Palestinian, second generation diaspora, and we are out there protesting. As June Jordan said, "Palestine is the moral litmus test of the world." None of us in the world are truly free until Palestine is free. My ex-husband was born in Iraq, and his family lived in Kuwait until the Gulf War. They then were forced to leave and fled to Jordan. My ex-husband immigrated to America. Palestinians living in Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, etc. are not considered citizens of their host countries, and the simple things we take in the West as inherent, basic rights, are not afforded to Palestinians. Second class, non-citizens. I am grateful you are speaking out and informing people about the camps, and the conditions that Palestinians in the camps live in. We love you, and we are out there protesting. You ARE making a difference, as are we in our solidarity with Palestinians. Change is slow. We may not see a free Palestine in our lifetime, but we are paving the way. Stay strong. صامد

In 1947 there were 630,000 Jews 143,000 Christians 1,181,000 Muslims living in British Mandate Palestine. The number of Palestinians killed during the partition of Palestine was between 3,000 and 13,000. Note the wide difference indicating poor information. This is in addition to 7,000 Arab soldiers and 6,500 Jews ( 4,000 combatants, 2,500 civillians). No historical source claims 1million dead. The Indian war of partition in 1947 created 15 million refugees and claimed 1million lives with widely published mass killings of thousands. The only published information on Palestinian deaths is a handful of village scale massacres in the tens with the biggest around one hunded victims.
