Let us do basic Dorset tax math. A 60k van is sold for 90k on site. Then, 9k (plus) a year for the limited time the van can be on pitch, that being 15 years. Last time I checked that 9x15 is £135.000. Somebody somewhere is quids in. I'll give you a hint, it's not the one paying £225.000, near a quarter of a million pounds for substandard build quality and "services".

@imaner76 100% agree with this and don't forget alot of people buy on finance so get locked into paying that so a £40k retail van becomes a £70k van..... but you get sucked into the life me personally I love the caravan life.... love being at the van and currently it's a price I can stomach, maybe not for long tho (Shane)

My 2024 fees are £1,800. But I’m on a small, independent site and the only facilities are a toilet/shower block (as they have a small number of tourers on site). Owner only site. North Wales near Bala. Great location! I’d been by the sea previously paying £3,300 on a medium-sized site. I thought I’d really miss the beach, but I’m only 30 mins away and find more to do being slightly inland.

@@MyStaticLife it is on Ribby Hall Village in the North West, privately owned I believe. Beautiful well kept site, with lots of facilities for families, our fees include full membership to state of art gym, adult pool , internet and fishing lakes for my keen fisherman husband! know it’s a lot of money but we go most weekends weather permitting so worth it for us.

@sueharvey4747 that's fantastic yes the facilities your getting for your money is defo worth it.... I'd love a gym at our park, I think alot of smaller sites tend to have better facilities for owners, how long have you had your van? And what van have you got?

I don't know what a certain company ( you know who they are ) are up to. I used to holiday with them all the time, several times a year. But the prices in the clubs have gone up and they are now £1 a pint more expensive than Butlins for some drinks when I check both apps (guess where I have just been away to). At the same time over the last decade the entertainment has virtually gone, maybe a singer now and again but no bands. Does the 5.5k include rates and water too? And now I hear they stopped the "can keep your van on site as long as it is in good condition" I am tempted to look through old photos to see if I can find the poster because I know it said it. I know for a fact at Butlins caravans are still changing hands that are over 20 yrs old ( they charge a change over fee of 15% to the seller ) for instance a 23yr old Atlas recently sold for £9k. There fees are 6.5k inc rates and water, gas connection ect but its not hard to rent them out... not sure I would want to rent out a 23yr old van though lol. But I do know of one 12yrs old that has its fees covered by the 6 weeks holidays ( parks too busy for the owner in 6 weeks ) I think a good question for people to ask is "what is the oldest van you have on the park?" and don't just talk to salesmen, go and seek out some owners and maybe buy them a pint over your questions. Most sites have the same initial blurb... but the terms, conditions and the service are all very different, and you don't really know what they are unless you talk to other owners who will point out a few things missing from the blurb. PS sorry this post is a bit long.

I've just realised where you are, I am not going to drop any clues. Looking at the app the lager is £5.59 and guiness is £6.29... the butlins is £4.90 for the lager and £5.35 for guiness. The 20% off is everywhere except reds and center stage there. We spent most of our time in the pig and whistle on the caravan side anyway. So it would be £3.92 for carling and £4.28 for guiness ( as opposed to £4.47 and £5.03 with discount where you are ) But to be honest there is so many caravan sites around that area I am sure you could find a decent site by butlins for half the ground fees you are paying now, and there is tons of bars around there with entertainment too. I think if I was you I would keep an eye on what its costing me, a few of the sites around there will let you move your own to there, waterfords has a big poster outside saying so, and I would guess their sister site, the water leisure park does too.

Hey Shane here, you're right beer has gone up 😳 Lee nearly went fully into Shrek mode when he found out he could no longer get the pitcher deal..... Doesn't affect me as I like Aspall cider... but as it happens I've just got a deal on a new van that will bring the site fees down 😉 I'll keep you posted 🙌

@@MyStaticLife I refused to buy a pitcher from their Brynowen site anymore after they insisted that 3.5 pints of worthingtons and half a pint of froth = 4 pints. They used to do it right but the new "bar manager" last year took the pee. Wouldn't mind but it wasn't like it was cheap. Also had a women complaining next to me who they had given half a large glass of wine instead of a full one, and when she complained they said "I can't top it up, the bottle is empty" LOL

I was under the impression that with the current economic state and the whole increase to the cost of living crisis that people were going to be dropping their holiday homes in droves. Me n the missus are currently looking to get one on a specific site (the fees seem more reasonable) but blow me its hard trying to find a decent plot on the site - no bugger seems to be leaving!! Therefore, I can only assume that people aren't giving up their holiday homes any time soon and the doom n gloom portrayed in the news is purely scaremongering....
