Mz the final moment was a negative number. So we assumed wrong direction on that as well.

Prof. Hanson. I'm a retired engineer going thru some topics that I want to brush up on. I watched some other videos on topics you are covering and yours is by far the best. Believe many are benefiting and are very thankful to you; I certainly am!

Yo, I have been watching your Mechanics of Materials vids, some of your thermodynamics vids, and some of your dynamics vids. This channel has saved me so far in college at WVU. Please keep it up!!!! Also... I saw there was only 8 thermodynamics vids in your playlist. Are there more vids I'm missing?

Correct it should be negative. Simple arithmetic error at 18:30.

I think the Mz part is incorrect. It says it's a smooth collar, not a slotted collar so technically it should be able to rotate around the Z-axis

another amazing video Professor! You are saving every engineering student in nyc right now. I had two questions about finding tension in the cable. I was under the impression that we treat the reactions of a cable only as a single vector-why did we break it up into cartesian components in this example? My second question is-since we only want to find tension in the cable and not on either of its points why did you make the choice to find it's i, j and k components in the direction you did (BC)? Thanks!

I confused about one thing, I was under the impression that if there were other supports(the cable) we don't consider the reaction moments.

i think Mz= -2400Nm. am i RONG? Mz + 600Nm + 1800Nm=0 , then Mz = -2400Nm. wrong on the FBD? anyways, this stuff is involved. i'm not criticizing. just looking for the right answer. apologies in advance.

Hey guys, I wonder if we can use the overreaction methods mentioned in the lesson 29 which we just ignore reacion moments to solve this problem in this video ?

I think for Mx he used the wrong equation, he should have used 0.286T(k)
@hooligan.hernan

But wouldn’t that not spin since it’s in a direction that is pointing at the x axis?
@samuelrusch9189

The line of action of vector .286T(k) intersects the X axis so it will not cause a moment about the X axis. You would be correct in adding that if the line of action did NOT intersect the X axis.
