Statistician-General, Risenga Maluleke, has refuted claims that the City of Johannesburg's population is declining.
Maluleke explained that his office relies on two sources of population figures that Statistics South Africa produces: the mid-year population estimates and the census count.
The figures from the mid-year population estimates are a projection informed by the census which is the actual count of people once every 10 years.
But the City of Johannesburg is crying foul over the outcome of the 2022 census count saying it is not a true reflection of the services provided by the metro.
