Well yeah that may be a good idea to master basic statistics before psychology studies, so you can focus on important psychology stuff later on instead of stressing out about statistics there

As someone who’s been working in psychology for 10 years I’ve barely used anything I learned in statistics and I’m still successful… have we not learned psychology is not a one size fits all… however he explains it extremely well, I just feel bad he has to

I remember doing this in my first college math class and I did really well with it; the teacher was a really good teacher, that was a couple years ago. I am hoping that I retained what I learned because at the end of January I will be taking a Psychology Statistics & I am nervous that I won't be lucky enough to get another good teacher; a downside to this class is it is online

John said that he just made up 24 and 12 as a concrete example of why you divide by the standard deviation. If you want to know how many dozen eggs are in 24, you divide 24 by the number in a dozen eggs (12). If you want the number of standard deviations present, you divide the total difference between you score and the average by the number in a standard deviation. Hope that helps!

Hi Muskan, technically, negative infinity to positive infinity...but, in practice, you get almost everything with just -3 to + 3 (99.7%)

How do you think psychologists perform social experiments and decide what sample sizes you need so the experiment isn't skewed by statistic outliers? If you're working with an experimental antidepressant with a control group it's important to understand basic statistics.
