About shooting with the DOF adapter as opposed to a traditional camera setup: I just purchased the new Zhiyun Crane 3S along with many other items that you'd probably say are for the traditional setup, and I will be using it with my iphone 11 Pro Max. Two reasons why I did this. 1. I'm future proofing myself for bigger cameras should I decide I want to go that route. 2, and probably the number one reason, shooting with an iphone is a HUGE challenge and one that is driving me everyday. I love figuring it out after days of frustration. One day I'll get the real thing (possibly), but mobile photography is on its way up and I'd like to be a part of it in its baby stage. But that's just me...

Good stuff, Blake! Can't wait to get my hands on that lens. Love the 2.76 look. As I type this, I'm in my backyard shooting on the DOF adapter with a Canon 50mm 1.4

Very cool! Need to try more lenses on the DOF. The 50mm Rokinon I have is really hard to get tack sharp focus. You can but it has to be perfect. The 24mm seems to work better so far.

I'm very interested in that new anamorphic lens. Have you done any tests yet to see if its increased stretch gives you oval shaped bokeh in the out of focus highlights?
@iphoneographers
4 жыл бұрын
Haven’t tested bokeh yet but will look at that. These lenses are very wide so you have to be close to an object to get shallow DOF. All the 1.33x anamorphics we’ve tested actually have horizontal oval bokeh instead of vertical due to the way they’re constructed, which is a bit strange.

Is there any way you could explain how to connect a monitor (Like a Small HD) monitor to your iPhone to monitor your video? It's hard when you're a director and you have to look over your DP's shoulder in order to see the shot. Thanks for all you do man and stay safe.

Question. From a viewing perspective or standard. Is there a reason why you would go with 1.55 vs 1.33? I know Sandmarc was making a 1.55 and was wondering if I should get that over the 1.33. Thanks for advice
@iphoneographers
3 жыл бұрын
It’s really mostly subjective. Both are cool. The 1.55x is more unique for smartphones and definitely wide screen (2.76:1), but the 1.33x is a more traditional & common anamorphic aspect ratio (2.39:1). Just go with the one that works best for what you’re shooting.

Got a test for you can you make a feature or short with just iPhone and edit on iPhone with luma fusion that would be empowering. A lot of people edit on desktop editor but be cool on just a phone and show BTS plus how get good audio with external mic into phone without having a sound guy record separately because most just have the themselves and thier phone but getting pro level like audio with just phone external mic would empower a lot of filmmakers we don’t have the crew and money a lot of the times Thanks!

The amazing this is.. almost one year and a half later and this 1.55x anamorphic lens is STILL NOT available. I think its safe to assume Beastgrip itself is either in trouble (as many rumors have been suggesting for a while already) or that by whatever reason, this product never went past the prototype/vaporware stage.
@iphoneographers
3 жыл бұрын
They were in stock a few months ago for sure and they’ve sold out, so it’s definitely real and past prototype. But last I heard they were having issues with some of their lens manufacturing in China. The 3x Tele is out of stock too (it’s very popular). This has happened worldwide, including with bigger companies like Rode microphones - you couldn’t get their products for months and months. The latest Beastcage for 12 series iPhones just released in June, so things are taking more time, but are slowly coming online. I think Beastgrip is doing fine, but of course they are a small company and so who knows the pandemic hurt a lot of businesses.

You mean the DOF adapter? If so, it's not better. It's just different and unique to mobile filmmaking. Similar to using the DOF adapters from that past (before we had DSLR cameras) to get shallow depth-of-field on small chip cameras.
