To address your question, I'm a big fan of the top stitching around the neckline to finish it off. That should keep the facing inside, but if it doesn't, you could later add some anchor stitches maybe at the shoulder seams. That was fun for me to see your light bulb moment. Ta dah! The next "tool" you'll want is a pressing ham. It really looks like a ham with muslin on one side and (usually) plaid fabric on the other. It's helpful when pressing curved seams or necklines. I really appreciated your sermon recap. Good message for all of us.

You’re the best. You remind me so much of my mom. She loved to sew and I would sit with her and watch and learn for hours. She passed away in 2017 and not a day goes by where I don’t miss her. This video was so nice to watch because it felt like spending time with her again; if that makes sense. Thank you Sophia ❤️

I love this series. I have watched you for many years (since around 2014)... rarely comment. I found you by accident many years ago, when you were sorting though some things you inherited (I believe a video about living room decluttering). But I have to say how much I adore you and your family. I have watched your children grow... and you and Scott grow, too! I’m an ICU nurse, 35 y.o. , married, no children (unable).....we are so different, but similar.,..I feel drawn to you. Like we are kindred souls. You have such a beautiful personality. You have no idea how much you have inspired me and motivated me over the years. I have discovered many new talents bc of you. My husband always knows when I am watching my beloved “Sophia”.

You are so inspiring! I am watching as a refresh, I used to love to sew when I was younger. The last clothing I made was matching outfits for me & my oldest daughter for her confirmation when she was 12 years old. She is now 42...lol! I stopped being inspired to sew when I started putting on weight. I have lost at least a good bit of it over the years & hope I will someday sew again, but right now I am drowning in projects! You are doing a great job & when you put it on I could see it's going to be cute!

Yes you can do the finishing edge. A lot of that is personal choice. But do after zipper in as the back will fold over the zipper. Also can just tack the facing or inside piece to the shoulder seams to hold down.

You could always put the contrasting fabric at the bottom and If you want it bigger you could add a small piece in the back. But I think it looks great! I cannot quilt but can sew. Again I am so proud of you. FYI. If the boys were like my kids they had T shirts for band, drama etc. too many. I cut out the picture/logo from each shirt and sewed them together for a keepsake blanket.

The pattern darts are positioned for (ahem) younger busts. We more mature ladies should lower the angle, which you can learn to do. And, as I think someone already said, tie the threads at the narrowest point, rather than back stitching. Try to sew within a few threads of the end then tie. That will prevent the dart from puckering. Good job!
@jenm7395

You did a great job, Sophia. I was smiling so long watching you figure out how to turn the neck portion. I knew you would figure it out! You have several options (remember, you're the "architect" and "construction worker" you can change whatever you want). You can simply straight stitch approx 1/8 inch away from edge (called edge stitching). You can do a single line all the way around, or add a second line. You can sew multiple straight stitch lines (called trapunto) in same or different color threads scant 1/4 inch apart for part of or the entire neck portion that has the interfacing. Instead of a straight edge stitch, you can choose one of the beautiful decorative stitches on your machine using regular thread or a varigated-color thread. If you choose a single edge stitch, and are still concerned about the inside portion flapping around in the wash, as you mentioned, you can sew several "blind hem" stitches equidistant around the bottom portion to combat the flapping. To be clear, lay already-pressed tunic down with right side out and the neck portion in place, push a pin all the way thru to mark where you want to sew the tiniest blind hem stitch with a thread that best blends with the fabric. Repeat this until you have desired amount around neck area tacked down. Be aware that multiple stitch lines may irritate your skin. I have sensitive skin and when I did trapunto around the neckline of a store bought linen tunic, I had no irritation. No matter which options you choose, remember to go slow and stop as needed to drop needle and pivot following curve of neck line. I think you will really enjoy this. Have Fun.

I'm glad you found the interfacing. No one will ever notice that the notch isn't perfect unless you point it out....so don't sweat the small stuff. Yes on the hand stitching around the interfacing to tack it down to the garment. It'll give a nice finished look to the dress. Machine stitching around the neckline is up to you. Personally I would leave it unstitched but I would definitely hand sew all the way around the interfacing pieces. Darts are ways to take in too much fabric to give structure to a garment. Darts at the breasts are to help the fabric fit nicely around the breasts. Darts at the waist take in fabric to give it a nice fit.

For the collar, before you flip it, cut the pointy parts at the top of the V across at a 45 degree angle and use something pointy, like a pencil tip to push those corner out. Never mind, I see you figured it out! Good on you! Yes, you should top stitch around the collar to keep it from flipping. You can get fancy and use a double needle as you advance.

Home sewing is different from factory sewing. My mother and grandmother were both seamstresses and so I sew like them. Don’t topstitch your facing to the dress. Store bought facings flip too but what you can do to minimize this is you tack the facing at the shoulder seam where no one sees. Good job!

Hi Sophia. Not sure how far you are from Totowa, but there is a huge Hobby Lobby there. They have a decent-sized sewing department. They are well stocked with zippers, threads, interfacing, home decor, quilting, and apparel fabrics. Their notions wall is fairly large, too. While they don't have the amount of fabric as JoAnn's, they come close. (Haha, I sound like a commercial.) I sometimes drive to Totowa, from Eastern Long Island (90 miles), to go to that Hobby Lobby. Three opened up here but they are fairly small. PS. You will find sewing zippers easy.

I always thought tunics were to be worn with pants or like what you said you got to wear with yours. I always buy tunic tops because of my odd shape and I wear them all with slacks. I never thought of them as a dress because of the length of them. Maybe I am showing my age. LOL Anyway, I think it is going great and you are doing a great job. Oh my your work on that garden puts me to shame. I could never do all that even when I was younger. I would have liked to have tried though.
