I've got two ways of dealing with advice and criticism. One is a quote from RDJ, "Listen, smile, agree, and then do whatever the f*** you were gonna do anyway." The other is to ask for advice or listen intently to the performance review or whatever and then say, "Thank you." You don't have to agree with them or actually be thankful they said what they did about you for one very simple reason. You know exactly what they want now. You can fix exactly what they are criticizing and erase any doubt about that criticism.

Haven’t worked out in over 10 years. Started working out at 5am 2 days ago. This morning I woke up sore and not feeling well. Thought about staying in and get back at it tomorrow. Inner Jocko came out and decided to get after it today and let’s see how I feel tomorrow. Feel amazing after the workout.

This is so true. If you want to get successful, you should get accustomed to being outside your comfort zone. Paradoxically, I feel most fulfilled, when I am not in my comfort zone. It is an art to be willing to constantly push the boundaries, day after day. I think just the cook asking implicates that he far down knows what to do. It is time to push the boundaries, baby!

FANTASTIC advice here. David Bowie once said that it’s important, and you can often do your best work, when you’re just outside your comfort zone. When in the water, when your feet can barely touch the bottom, but not really touch the bottom. Just outside your comfort zone.

stepping out of your comfort zone will lead to failures before success.. as long as the people above you have the patience to let you fail all is good. If they do not, there is a problem.
@V742
4 жыл бұрын
That's a very good point you raise. Some leaders and people above us in our lives detest failure. They've already figured out the correct way to do something, so they just want you to do it their way, forgetting about the process they went through. I think it's a big reason people today don't want to push themselves. The ridicule and cost of failure can be enormous, especially when the economic environment and social media highlights of people's lives makes the world so competitive. But of course, this is not an excuse to stay in the comfort zone. I've come to a point in my life where I think "if people around me want to lose their minds about mistakes I or others make... okay then." These people can ruin other people's lives if they're allowed to and I've let their madness get to me for a while now. I (and others) need to let their _unreasonable_ anger be their problem. Obviously if I stuff something up I will work on fixing it, but there are people that won't be satisfied by that. But hey, caving to their behaviour is a comfort zone itself. And look where that gets us.

Play the game a little bit. But don't let them catch you pretending.
@annmurry8589

Where playing these games aligns with job goals I am up for it and see it as part of the job. Unfortunately these side pursuits often conflict with job goals - at least on a level of time management and sometimes on a level of actual conflict of interest. In those cases I am out. I know what is described in this video explains "how the world works" but I get more satisfaction out of the expressed goals of my chosen career alongside my own side projects than I do out of status that comes from these strategies. Along these paths of politics the road often twists into areas of questionable integrity that I am not willing to tradeoff. Official job goals are usually made clear up front but this shmoozing stuff is determined on the fly and you never know what step E might be after investing in A-D and if E is a nonbo for you this may not be clear until sacrifices were already made for A-D, losses that won't be returned if you bail at step E. I have accepted the consequences of not getting recognition and aim for being in demand and employable so that I can get better jobs by jumping ship (at times of mutual parting of ways that don't compromise shared goals which are my focus) rather than internal promotion that requires satisfying gatekeepers by doing whatever it takes to make the right people happy. This chef could work for another restaurant that values (or needs) his strengths more if this company wants something different than what he has to offer. This might not be the best fit for either and having someone actually good at what they want replace him after he finds a place that wants what he has might be better for everyone and more. Status and promotion are more important to some than others. At times promotion can be disruptive and lead to worse situations.

And I notice he was much more social with everyone compare to me who is "antisocial". So yeah you right! Talk more out your self out there. Maybe I should take this advice myself

Okay, sounds like this restaurant thinks that having a "celebrity chef" on board will be a big selling point. And that your focus is more on the craft, on providing excellent service and working as a team with your staff. If your boss doesn't appreciate what you bring to the table, and your goals don't fit in with the corporate image... start looking now for a restaurant or food service company where your goals and management's goals are similar, or the same.

Thankyou Jacko , I've my first interview back in mental health on Wensday and a possible (?) medical scan friday , nothing serious I hope , anyway feel alot of what you say is valuable , But and it is a big problem . I am a non conformist , I have outgrown the yes sir mentality of fear (autism) neurosis that seems to bedevil our culture to a greater extent than most ,we are moving from the ancient hierachical system of experts , proffesors ,leaders , chiefs , totalitarian leaders or greedy capitalists . It is by nature oppressive . I don't know about you but have had enough , I do not like falling out with people but the day to day the ;evel of proganda to push for this ot that system or approach is huge , this ultimately devalues people , it creates a Big Brother type of environment where tension break out socially in all sorts of hideous ways . It all needs deconstructing and for those in power currently this is a huge threat to thier power base , how dare you ? We are doing our best ? the secret message is unless you comply you won't get any help at all !
