I own the XT model and think it’s the best bang for the buck. That handlebar stem combo looks great but is super stiff. Easy to up-stroke that fork to 160 and make it even more capable. Would love to compare this to the new Heckler SL.

I have the entry level 9.5, as it was selling in UK for £4395 although I have done some upgrades like fox 36 up front better wheels, I cant fault this bike as a fairly strong and fit rider it gives me more than enough power to take the edge of the climbs and its an absolute blast going down hill as you said. Kudos to trek and TQ for the motor though, it is almost completely silent and to get that kind of power in a unit that can fit into the palm of your hand, I think that needs a special mention.

Great review and discussion, it's good to see multiple viewpoints around different scenarios. I'd been considering the Fuel EXe for a while but I'm going to test a few more bikes before committing to a low-powered bike. I hadn't even considered a Giant and didn't realise it had more power (though not a huge fan of Giant's frame shapes)

Great overview, per usual. Rented the 9.5 version of this from PSB for 4 days and rode it all over the trails in SW Colorado. The TQ motor was great. Liked the display, too. The bike felt a little big in an L (I'm 5'11", 192 lbs.), but was a planted beast on technical descents. The range was not great for me (~15 miles / 2,000 ft vert), but those trails are generally very soft and sandy with lots of loose rocks. Would've been an unfun slog on a normal MTB. After the experience, I was seriously considering getting the Fuel EXe in top trim because we had such a blast on trails that would've been well beyond our capacity. However, I noticed that the stem / bar is an integrated piece. That is so dumb it is hard to find the words and still keep it friendly. You simply can't dial in RAD on an integrated bar / stem unless it happens to come perfect for your size from the factory. For the most expensive version of the bike. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? I ended up getting the Transition Relay in top trim. Trek may want to hire a product person that actually rides and sets up bikes so they don't continue to make such obvious (to a rider) errors.

I did buy a Stumpjumper Expert 6 months ago for 3400Euro. That bike did cost 7.000 Euro last Dezember. It took me nearly two months to find the right place to buy it and two weeks nonstop E-Mailing with Specialized and the Bike Shop. On the official bike site it is still listed with 5.000Euro ;) That's how you do it. ( I did the same with SCOTT but couldn't bringe the price down enough for me even after weeks, still had some decent price drops for me). Right now I have ordered another Stumpy (Stumpjumper Comp) for 2800Euro for my brother ;) 🙂

Have to get used to weight for downhills but it jumps fine for me and i continue to be impressed with the insane climbs it can do. I put a 160mm air spring in the Lyrik on my Fuel EXe and it definitely changed the feel of the bike for the better. It already ripped before, but the extra travel/slightly slacker geo really helps with descending. Agreed on the motor, it's light on power but just enough to take the sting out of the climbs and the power delivery is instant and super natural. I've not had range issues riding in the highest power level for 2-3 hour afternoon laps but for bigger days I usually leave it in lower power modes and I can get 3000-5000 feet no problem.

It's a wicked fun bike, and my XT model with 160mm fork is great to ride. The support is not as strong as the Specialized Levo SL2 at the same level / setting despite matching torque output, and it rinses through battery life far more quickly too. It makes the range extender almost a necessity which bumps up the weight. The game has moved on and I'd suggest that Levo SL2 and the Transition Relay are top pick. Great videos guys!
@TheLoamWolf
Жыл бұрын
Very interesting! We found the Levo SL to be the most underwhelming in terms of power and combined with the 320wh battery, really needs an extended. But you are correct, the TQ system does use battery a bit quicker than we’d like.
@waynephilbert
Жыл бұрын
@@TheLoamWolf very interesting indeed. I have found that with the Fuel Ex-e, once you start power / support level tweaking and fettling in the app, the battery life really becomes very short. Leaving it close to stock seems optimal for battery life. Looking forward to the round up / summary. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

There is certainly a difference on the trail! "Worse" can be subjective but if you want to race someone, or have more power/assistance up the hill, then yes, Ride 60 is going to do that better. The Nebo Peak is a sweet bike all around too! Although, so is this one. Admittedly, with less power and range.

The real Question is if you have an exe already, is the relay that much better to want to go ahead and sell the exe for a relay. Some new release bikes are marginally better than others that have been out for a bit, but when something is really just that much better of an experience, that's what makes a bike exceptional in my opinion. I know for my self if I didn't already own an exe, and was in the market for an sl id probably spring for the relay, but is it good enough to switch?? with Battery switches being a bit easier on the relay id just get an extra and keep it in my bag or truck for those longer rides for Shure.. range issue solved ;}

the wheel set is suboptimal. the end caps aren’t a large diameter to fit in the machines lyrik fork, the i’d of the rim is too narrow and the tires have no intermediate knobs like an assegai. they did t even offer to cut the 820 bar down ( integrated bar /stem ). felt like i was checking out at walmart. heading to store today but ive had it several months not less than 30 days.

@Diablosix, there are... at the moment, over 56 million ppl that are millionaires.. so, even if only a few of these do mtb and want trek bikes.. let's say, less than 0.01%, there are still over 5600 ppl that would be able to spend without batting an eyelash the sticker price of this exe. Add those who can afford this bike.. those with means but with less than 1 million in their bank accounts and suddenly, you can sell world wide at least 15k bikes with a sticker price of 14k; so, it is not for everyone but, it is *just a bike* for a sufficiently big number of possible buyers. Too bad you and me are not among them or else, we wouldn't complain about high bike prices.

Okay. $14000 and weighs 43.7 pounds (3 pounds less than a $6000 Giant WITH pedals). Most don't like the Fox live valve or the one piece stem/bars. Electronic dropper isn't popular. 10.5 mile range in your test (though I know people do get more range than that). Gave it an 8.5 out of 10! Perhaps you should rethink your scoring system!

I totally disagree. Love my Kenevo SL except for the limited seatpost insertion depth. Getting out for more than 3300ft climb/descent is nigh impossible for me due to being a father. So now I can do my ride not carrying any extra weight...but rather saving another 1 hour for the climb.
