Hi Piotr. I used to be a plasterer and builder, and my dad's profession was a wood and metalwork teacher, so I grew up doing this kind of stuff yes. I love it.

Once its dry put liquid super glue onto the spots that you want the bend to be held at. It's used as a deadwood preservative as well. You wont have to worry about it sprining back after that.

Great technique! I tend to bend the branch when still alive and make the jin once set in place. But this one is a great idea I will keep in mind if needed.😀👍

Cheers mate. From all my experimentation, I would say that bending it while alive is by far the best method. This is of some use but again it didn't really hold after a week

Hi Tony, have never seen this specific method before. Very interesting. Thanks for showing. Regarding your juniper, this looks very much like a species that is widely available in Germany under the name „media old gold“. I have got a few of those, different sizes, a very forgiving and hardy version to work on. Good luck 😊 Dirk

If you Jin the branch, wire immediately and bend it it will set, circus act not needed

Did you learn the steaming wood from your wood working? Very cool to see it done in this method though. The twist you achieved out of the deadwood pieces was spot on. Was there a reason you wanted to take the wire off so fast? Thank you for sharing. I may try this in the future.

Great idea, another technique I can add to my arsenal. And I like that you show the failed methods of trying to cut the cloth, saves others from having to go through tha same failed processes.

What an excellent idea,Tony. I have seen gas torches used to take the "fluff" off jins but never to introduce a bend. I will definitely be giving this technique a go myself.

I think I really needed this… Interesting to see the technique. I have seen it used for bending longer planks for making garden trugs by steaming planks in a sealed box but interested to see how you do it with a jin/dead branch. Ps. Scissors also work 😂 PPs. I think we both know I have a specific tree to try this technique on…

Sounds good. I've yet to visit a proper bonsai nursery, but my time will come. I've heard his trees are not cheap, but hopefully you'll find a nice one at a decent price

I don't really think there is much point. From what I read, I went over the top leaving it overnight, but then again, it wouldn't have done any harm to leave it for a week I suppose.
