@Splarkszter all hail KDEnlive! Hands down the best free video editor I’ve ever used! I don’t care about DaVinci Resolve, even if it’s “better” it crashed on me several times when trying to use it for the first time and was too confusing to figure out, couldn’t even figure out how to import a video clip, things like that are unforgivable and seals a programs fate for me. But KDEnlive in the other hand, it worked right away no problem, is familiar and similar and actually “intuitive” (feels like that word gets thrown around a lot and misused, hey devs, it’s another word for “instinctual” or “natural” as in you can dive in and use a program how you expect it should be used) with an almost nonexistent learning curve and it’s so powerful even in its current state. If they could only add some feature that something like After Effects has had since version 7.0, which I still use from time to time on an old Windows 7 machine, like 3D layers, virtual lights and virtual cameras, I’d never need another video editor for as long as I live. All hail KDEnlive!

I've been a Linux only user for almost 6 years now and the amount of progress we've made when it comes to gaming is very amazing. I mean a couple of years ago we'd be lucky to get anything running at all, usually resorting to a windows vm with a gpu pass through. But now? Now we often get day one support even for major releases. The only reason some online games don't work, is because the devs refuse to add support. Many anti cheat solutions do support Linux, the devs just have to enable it for their game.

Running Chimera OS on a matx build with amd 5700, 7800 xt , 64gigs of fury ram and a 2tb corsair displaying on a viewsonic 3440 x 1440 75hz and plays RDR2 on mostly high and ultra settings at a locked 75fps. Couldn't be happier. Yeah there are a few games that I cant play but thats ok. To play rockstar games and probably others with launchers just install and load for the first time in desktop mode. Easier to get logged in to all your accounts. Also add proton GE 8-20+. One of those will get most games running and running well.

GTA 4 in general runs well on Ryzen CPUs, even lower end ones, so I doubt the good performance here is due to Proton. DXVK (a component of proton) does improve stuttering and overall performance though, so it may be contributing.

Ray tracing is much easier to get going with the new drivers that dropped last week but they're so new that even the normal arch repo doesn't have them yet. Either way, progress is coming fast.

I think most people would be better off installing a regular distro and setting up steam to startup on startup in big picture mode tbh imo I recommend Nobara becuase it's a lightly tweaked Fedora install by the people who put GE Proton together. It tightly integrates GE Proton. That should ensure the best Linux compatibility with the least amount of fuss

It's too bad Facebook won't let you use Meta Link on Linux it makes total sense and will definitely let me convert it's cool Steam is evolving with Linux and might be the future of Operating Systems because of how easy it is to install but it still needs to find a way to support virtual reality I love the Garuda distro for Steam gaming personally but it's good to just dual boot Linux if you plan on using Windows for other experiments.

Love this video it's simulator to a project I'm going to do by using mint cinnamon v21.1 to revive a old laptop that's bound to Windows 8 since it lacks requirements for win 10 so far it's perfect for simple task KZitem multiple tabs ECT I do plan to try older games on it just out of curiosity but I've currently lost it's charger cord 😂 and I think the old 2012 HHD could use a nice SSD in its place. Btw i hope you play with gaming on more Linux distros

I bought an RX5600XT instead of a 1070 just so i can hopefully avoid using windows completely. Im a complete linux newbie but, its not half bad if you just want to play games. I used HoloISO for a bit, then learned its massively out of date and kde discover is almost useless. I have been playing around with Nobara for the last couple days. The experience is much better, although not as simple as with steam OS. All of my steam library runs flawless, with beamng drive even running better than on windows. I unfortunately havent had much luck in getting many non steam applications to run with proton. I understand that wine and proton are highly advanced tools and are often used only by those who have a good understanding of how linux and windows works. Still, i find there to be surprisingly few resources explaining how it works and what exactly are the shortcomings on a level thats understandable by new users. The future seems to be very promising though. Even if it takes many workarounds, linux is more attractive to me because i hasnt yet woken me up at 3am because of an update or restarted my pc while running 12 hour long simulations. Maybe it will happen one day.

I've been waiting for the 'Year of the Linux Desktop' for the better part of a decade and a half now. DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH... As close as we've gotten in the recent years, as far as the tools have come to translate API calls, etc etc, it still doesn't, and definitely won't for a long time, just work. Linux and configuration go hand in hand, and I've yet to see a turn-key solution that will always work. Even if Steam were to get 100% compatability, like with the EGS, there's other launchers, other games that straight up will not work on Linux, etc. It's frustrating, I don't want to use Windows anymore, but nothing else will ever truly replace it, IMO. I'd love to be wrong though,

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!
@ablash218

Yes, you are correct. This is a longstanding discussion in the open-source community. The term "Linux" is commonly used to refer to the entire operating system, but as you've pointed out, this is technically incorrect. The term "Linux" should correctly only refer to the kernel, which was developed by Linus Torvalds. On the other hand, the term "GNU" refers to a collection of free software, including compilers, shell utilities, libraries and other vital system components developed by the Free Software Foundation and the GNU Project. When combined with the Linux kernel, these components form a complete, usable operating system, which is technically and more accurately referred to as "GNU/Linux". The argument you're making is often championed by Richard Stallman, the founder of the Free Software Foundation. He argues that the contributions of the GNU Project to the free software movement and to the creation of a fully free Unix-compatible operating system should be recognized in the name of the operating system, hence "GNU/Linux". However, it's worth noting that in practical conversation, most people refer to the operating system simply as "Linux" for convenience. This has led to some disagreements within the community, but it's important to understand that both contributions - the Linux kernel and the GNU system - are vital parts of what we commonly call "Linux" today.

@@IcebergTech I wanna add one thing, just for the record: such distros like Chimera usually dont have bleeding edge packages and focused on a specific things, like look&feel for example. So, performance and set of supported features (like RT in proton games for example) may be different across various linux distros. I'm not promoting to use smth different, cause something like arch is annoyingly hard to install in the first place, and arch derivative like Manjaro have same problem with "old" packages (drivers\programs), just wanted to mention that, so you know. That being said, I can run Cyberpunk with RT on my 7900xtx with zero problems, by adding "RADV_PERFTEST=rt" in launch options. Even turning on "overdrive" mode works like "destroy my framerate" button, exactly like on windows.

@@delancre5858 Isn't chimera based on Arch? If so , it should have pretty new packages .
@delancre5858

@@Skulka well, that not how it works, but yes, looks like chimera os indeed not using whole root updates as holo iso did. SteamOS 3 is also based on arch, but locks root and disables ability to update via arch-channels. That also was holo iso problem, cause they just wanted to "adapt" iso from valve. Chimera on the other hand is just arch with steam big picture instead, so using aur or pacman shouldn't be a problem. So, I need to apologise for giving false information.
