At the beginning of the new millennium a lot of steam activity could still be seen at Cuba's sugar mills. This video was shot on a Steam in Paradise visit during the year 2000 zafra (Sugar harvest). As well as a name, all Cuba sugar mills have an identification number. The numbers run roughly, lowest first from west to east.
Parque Lenin is a pleasure park within Havana with tourist trains hauled by ex Minaz (Cuba Sugar Corporation) 3ft gauge steam locomotives. All other steam locations in this video are lines associated with sugar mills. All lines are standard gauge, 4ft 8½ ins unless otherwise stated. Almost all Cuban steam locos are oil fired. The frequent clouds of thick black smoke is the result of this fuel, it is NOT caused by "Clag on request"
Locations in Part 1 are:
Parque Lenin, Havana
