Dont give up! You have enough powerful engine, but not powerful enough boiler. Concentrate on it and You will ride Your steam bike!

even i had the same problem.i fixed and 50cc engine to a bicycle and had pick up problem. do not give the engine output directly to the cycle wheel. use clutch set for the engine output.because the engine has good speed but directly attaching it to the wheel does not produce enough torque. by using clutch set you can engage the wheel with the engine after the engine attains minimum torque to pull the bicycle. one more thing increase the size of wheel sprocket .use still bigger one. i am sure it would work if you do this .
@jepulis6529

It is a steam engine, it isn't necessary to have a clutch as the steam engine can produce it's torque already at 0 rpm. And yes, i know your comment is old.

Jepulis spoke for me, and you also waste steam pressure having the piston(s) running without moving, or if they are at a higher rpm than necessary.

Why would people give this video a thumbs down? What were you expecting? The guy built this thing by hand and turned it into something really cool! my theory on people that give videos like this a thumbs down is they either don't understand what they're looking at, they have failed miserably trying to build one themselves, or they're jealous. I will always be a defender of somebody who was creative and built something really cool by hand and then had people give it a thumbs down. Makes no sense to me.

This is pretty cool, it seemed like it was close to being able to move on its own. A single double-acting piston may have been a better fit (like a Stuart 5A), or at least powerful enough to move your bike. There's a gentleman here on YT that's got a Stuart powered go-cart using a steam generator instead of a horizontal boiler. There's a pretty simple way of converting BTU's to boiler horsepower, and then to mechanical horsepower. For example, a 500,000 Btu kerosene heater *should* be enough for 20 horsepower (I don't have the math in front of me) and that's plenty for something the size of your bike. Subbed!

Cool project. Likely not enough steam *volume* able to get into the cylinders. Volume, not pressure, they are very different things. Your valve and plumbing look kind of small, maybe that's why? Or just boiler not up to the task. Is the 2 stage compressor being used as a compound steam engine or simple?

THANKS, there was no clutch. But most steam powered machines dont have one, so i thought i can go without one. I really needed better gearing, fully inflated tires, and solid surface. It could run just fine. It was like five years ago, now i have plans in my head for another one. wish me luck :)
