Brilliant. Brilliant as always. Would like to have a better understanding of the “exciter” and what and how it operates. Thanks!

The 'exciter' is a low-power feed to the mister board, which just keeps it 'warm' so that it will respond instantly to the reed switch's demand for a chuff of steam. Without the 'exciter', the board would have to re-start each time, taking a second or so to respond. The 'exciter' is simply a second feed wire from the supply, but with a 1K ohm resistor in series.

This is just so very cool! I so excitedly look forward to your updates on this project. This model is pushing out such a beautiful push of smoke that it’s believable as exhaust. I like your idea of having a dedicated channel to turn the unit off and on. This would be handy for when the model is parked if the sequence has the boiler on chuff. Does the boiler have a “half chuff” setting? A median voltage that would allow a softer exhaust line as if the engine were simmering? Thank you for the mention of the documentation you’ve posted online-I will go look for those threads to learn more about this project. -Chris

with all the effort you are putting into this elec(trickery) it would almost be easier to do "proper" live steam job... 😜🤪
