As someone who has the steelseries headset I will say this, at first the "ski goggle" strap is super duper comfy and feels great, but after 6 months- 1 year, that strap gets worn out and becomes very loose, so much so that that solid aluminium band rests directly onto your head, which is not comfortable at all. This is something that reviews are never going to point out because it takes long term use for this to become an issue, just a heads up to everyone

@@Shexter17 Yeah, you can get replacement bands, though I have never seen them in a store in my country, despite the headset being purchasable in a bunch of different stores, and even though the band can be replaced, I still think that its something that people should take into account when choosing a headset, knowing that your headset is going to require a replacement band every 6 to 12 months is fairly important.
@TheYoungOne-iv9yv

I think that is a much better solution when it comes to durability. With most other headphones, the padding cover starts to strip and can become worn out as well and is not as easy to change if you can at all. You can replace the ski strap for just $10USD - $15USD.

Let us not forget that the Corsair Virtuoso Sounds/mic is x10 better when playing threw the USB. Virtuoso also has a power-saving mode, so you never have to turn it off. Personally, I've owned the Arctis Pro for almost about a year now, they aren't that different from the Arctis 7's. In the video, he pointed out how there are plastic parts on the Arctis which has become a major issue for me. Currently, the plastic part where the aluminum hook connects to the earcup has actually cracked and has gotten worse since I've noticed it, making me worry about it snapping off completely. Also, many of my other friends who own the Arctis Pro also have experienced cracking on the headset in the same area (a total of 3 other people excluding myself experiencing this). The Arctis has been very good to me; however, it was just disappointing that I've only had it for a year and possibly might need to replace it. Nevertheless, great video. I've had my eyes on the Corsair Virtuoso even before I got the Arctis and it was very convenient for you to compare the two.

I've been using Arctis headphones for years now, I find that the ski goggle fabric leaves less "headset hair" than other headsets I've used. Also, I replaced the default foam ear cuffs with the leather ones you can buy on the SteelSeries website, and my ears have been happier for it. Sometimes they can get a little hot in the summer but switching back to the original cuffs for a few days or so is easy and no big deal.

For compatibility I think you should have done more research, for the Corsair Virtuoso, the Slipstream wireless dongle can connect up to 3 supported devices at the same time, and it works with cellphones without 3.5mm jack if connected via USB type-c to type-c cable (not included). Regarding RGB lighting, you can turn it off in the Corsair iCUE software if you find no use for it, keep in mind though that many gamers do like having that choice. For gamers and streamers, mic quality and sound quality are two of the most important aspects of a headset, which as you had pointed out, Corsair Virtuoso beats the Steelseries Arctis 7, and not just by a little, they are actually in two different class when it comes to sound (in/out). I think you put too much weight on the ChatMix game/chat audio feature of the Arctis 7 because popular voice chat apps such as Discordhas built-in attenuation settings allowing you to set and automatically lower the volume of other applications when someone is speaking, Windows 7 and later also has sound settings to automatically lower or even mute other apps when you use Skype or other voice channel apps so you don't really need a physical game/chat balance dial like the one on Arctis 7. Yes it is nice to have quick access to adjusting the game/chat balance, but it shouldn't be so heavily weighted in your scale.
@ApplicableTech
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback Stephen!! I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying... The Arctis 7 didn't win only because of the chat to game mixer. Both headsets finished on an even keel after the 6 rounds but the Arctis 7 has a feature that I believe most people want. I appreciate that this can be done within Icue software on the Virtuoso but that requires a lot more effort that simply moving a dial - at the price Corsair charge, I would have expected the feature to be accessible without having to open software. automated software such as windows can often completely silence the game while friends are talking and ultimately is quite annoying. Discord has implemented the feature very well but cannot be done on the fly. Another massive factor for me is comfort - The Arctis 7 is by far and away one of the comfiest headsets on the market while the virtuoso is definitely not. The Virtuoso does have a lot going for it such as the exceptional mic (especially on the SE) and Audio (until the level is above 35% at which point the massive drivers seem to get a bit messy and lose precision) I have taken your feedback on board Stephen and will add additional emphasis on the capabilities of the first party software in future headset reviews and comparisons. I genuinely appreciate that you have taken the time to give well thought out, solid constructive feedback.

I appreciate the thorough review and definitely gave a like. I was looking for this pairing comparison since I own the Arctis Wireless Pro. I've been using them for a couple of years now and the utility of the swappable battery is the main appeal for me since I'm always editing or making calls. The issue with the Arctis headsets in general though that led me to look for this, is the lifespan of its build quality. No matter how much I baby these the point where the band meets the earcups always wears down since it's plastic. This generally takes anywhere from 6-12 months with daily usage. It's a known issue on the subreddit and SteelSeries just keeps replacing the headset without any concern for improving the durability. I like the robust sound and mic quality of the Virtuoso from your testings. I do use a custom equalizer setting for my Arctis Pro but I'm going to give the Corsair a try. While I appreciate SteelSeries' commitment to replacing them for me each time I'm sick of not having a headset from anywhere from 4-6 weeks while they deal with it.

The SE also has two issues i'm aware of. The ear padding while plush is not thick enough and the internals can actually touch\catch one's ears. I understand if you can hear white noise in wireless if you are listening to 100% sound, but im listening 40-60% sound and still can clearly hear it. On the forums some folks say that its a software problem, to be precise- ique does this white noise, but i tryed various solutions and they didnt work. So yeah, virtuoso is cool looking, GREAT mic, almost similar with boya m-pro in sound quality but is uncomfortable and IN MY CASE has this constant noise unfortunatly

I'm late to the party, but I would also mention, and it'll probably fall under features, but apparently in practical use (according to LTT's headset roundup) the Arctis 7 has excellent range on the wireless, and the Virtuoso quite a short one (despite claiming 60ft). I own the 7 (2017 model) and have been frequently surprised to still have an audio connection in just about every room of my house.

I'm looking for a new headset (would like a wireless one) and I'm really liking the Arctis style. However they both have annoying cons and I don't really want either one of them after all. I hope SteelSeries makes a better version of the Arctis headset with better mic/sound quality that won't cost something like 200€.

Most of my gaming friends have the SteelSeries Arctis 7. Most of them have serious issues with them as well. Once you have them for about 6 to 7 months the problems start. The cans stop responding. There is a faint hiss and even an echo. The mic starts having delays and becomes wobbly. And they just feel so damn cheap even when they are not. And you putting them on your head and taking them of a few times a day does not bid well either. Plastic starts to chip and in some cases even crack. And even though the Arctis 7 has the chat/gaming button the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE is so much better.

In Corsair Icue you can make custom EQ, change mic volume, turn off/on the rgb or change the lighting. So there are much more features into Virtuoso

You can do that in the steelseries program too

You forgot to test the micro wired. It is more great than wireless. And the RGB out make the batery time more long.

Major downside of the Virtuoso are the earpads implementation, you can't just swap the earpads with others, unless if you do a little handicraft to change it.

Great comparison mate, great quality standard. I'm finding that my Void headset pinched quite a bit and gives one hell of an ear ache so I'm looking to upgrade from them, these are the 2 contenders. The sound quality of the virtuoso is amazing but does it eventually cause the pinching sensation and attached earache after a while?

sadly it does - I noticed I started to get earache after only an hour using them and the pinching became an issue. I realised I was constantly reducing the volume to compensate for the discomfort. 👍

@@ApplicableTech Thanks, that really is a shame. The TTRPG group can go for hours, but the ability to get up and walk around un-tethered to my tower would be great. Another question real quick, would a dualshock 4 controler be able to connect via the wireless signal as well on either headset? That kind of multi-functionality would be great

I would be using either of these on a playstation 4 as well as PC. You didn't say anything about PS4 compatability. Nice video tho! I'll probably get the Virrioso.. hoping for a Prime day sale on it

I dont quite get why you would use an inferior headset just for a game to chat mixer that you can get to by judt tapping the xbox home button. But great review!

I don’t need chat to game audio I can just change up the game sounds and turn them down or turn them up I mean I would really rather have a good make it a good sound quality and just have to change my game sounds so I can hear people

Started out looking at arctis 1 headsets then arctis 7 now I'm leaning towards corsair lol. The corsair audio and mic sounded far better listening on my sennheiser hd4.50 headphones. Im not a fan of ski style headsets maybe the ones I've used in the past were cheap ones but they didn't feel as secure on.

I went with the steelseries ones. I like them okay but they hurt my head after a couple hours. I think the other ones would hurt even worse. Its the weight + I wear glasses so they squeeze my face. I have wired Bose which I use for music or watching stuff, then I switch to the wireless for conference calls or gaming with friends. I plug my headphones into my headphones. That long weird dongle is useful to me! I’d make the same choice though after this review. I just don’t see the corsair ones being any lighter.

I agree with Rebecca Nazziri. I have had my Arctis 7 headset for about 3 1/2 years and yes the strap loses its ability to hold the headset off the top of your head, and the battery life has gone down greatly and the sound is not as good, what do you expect for a 3 1/2 year old headset. The head strap feature is the worst part of this head set, IMO.

I will say that I used to find the game to chat volume feature very useful when I gamed on console but on pc I’ve never really had a need for it. My discord or background video is always at a level I like and then I adjust the game volume once then I’m done. Might just be me though (I should point out that I never owned a headset with the dial I just used to manually do it with the Xbox audio settings)
