Stuff like that really makes me want to try the 2 thousand dollar headsets because I got a Turtle beach stealth pro headset last March & I love them they were like $380 or something but within 6 months I wore the leather off of them but they still feel comfy & they come with a year warranty but TB said it would take up to 2 months to replace & get back to me so I said forget that! If you want grenades/bombs to feel like bombs going off go with astros. If you want to hear everything like enemy footsteps while grenades are hitting like black cat fire crackers go with novas. He summed it up really well: Immersion=astros competitive=nova. Me=user of both. I just got nova pro (wired) I used astro a50 (wireless) for years but the battery life has slowly died so I switched. I gotta say, each of these headphones misses a little bit of something. My use of novas is still pretty fresh but I miss the big bass a lot from astros. But, I can hear enemies creeping up a little easier now. I just wish there was a little more BOOM with novas. edit: my friends say i sound much more clear now with the wired novas but that is to be expected as they are wired

Hi, Thank you very much for you work. I have few comments to add. As a A50s Gen 3 user since release i can agree about simplicity. Mic flip to mute is extremely useful. I wanted to swap to Gen 4 but then i have seen Nova pro wireless out and decided to try it. When it comes to spatial audio, a50s sounds way better because of hardware processing vs software processing on Nova pro (hardware DTX:X was removed from Nova) Nova pro picks up keyboard and mouse sounds, this can be reduced by setting mic threshold level but at night time you will voice down but keyboard and mouse still makes the same amount of noise, i have had no issues with A50s maybe because A50 has Unidirectional mic vs Bidirectional mic on Nova. I found controls on Astros easier to operate than Nova. I will stick to Nova pro until Astro releases new headset. I will update if there will be any issues with Nova pro. Edit: After turning AI noise cancellation in Sonar it completely eliminated keyboard and mic noise even close. Even playing music on mobile was not heard on mic and the voice quality on mic is intact. I am very much impressed.

@@kev2427 Hi. I am returning mine jova pro today and i will be switching to gen 4 as my current gen 3s are worn out. Reasons for return are: No built in plugin for Dts( you have to use software all the time to switch between on and off) Noise gate settings are not stored on headset(on PS5 everyone in your chat will hear all noise around you like you tapping buttons or your fan or noise outside window etc) I don’t like this bi directional mic, there is 0 reason to have one on gaming headset + mic is useless if not retracted. I don’t understand what they wanted to achieve here. Built quality feels cheap, even the volume button on the headset is very poor. Overall i don’t see any reason to switch from Astros unless you want bluetooth or be able to have 2 devices plugged in without need to change wires. I switched to the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless from the astro A50/A40s. Both are phenomenal options, but my biggest issue with Astro was the support. There have been no updates and no tech support when things go wrong and it feels like nobody is working for astro. I think it may have something to do with Logitech buying out astro or something. The app for windows only works half the time and having to turn my Astros on and off in order for them to work properly was also frustrating. It wasn't just my headset, but also my buddies that I game with. They have astro as well and the same complaints come from them. I just have been blown away from the arctis nova pros so far. IMO, the bass is way more prevalent on these than the Astros for some reason and I have been having fun all over again, while wearing the new headset! Fantastic review and great channel! As a long time ASTRO a50 user I can provide some info that isn't in this video I've owned these for 3 years now. Got them mid 2019. They worked great for the first year then I started having some issues. The first issue to arise was it randomly losing connection to the docking station. I could be sitting right next to the docking station and I'd start randomly losing connection. It wasn't happening top often till a few months after It happened the first time. At one point I couldn't get it to connect for a month so I had to switch back to my old headset. I decided to give it one more chance before I threw them away and I got it to work. A little before year 2 the next issue arrived. For some reason I was struggling to charge the headset on the docking station. Id have to wiggle it around on the docking station for a bit till i saw the yellow charge light. Tried unplugging the docking station and pulugging it back in, i tried resetting the headset, nothing worked. Then not too long after that it longer charge on the docking station. If you use the equalizer on pc then this will be a problem because if it can't charge on the docking station then it won't connect to the equalizer. Recently a 3rd issue poped up where I'm hearing a faint crackling sound. For a $350 headset I was hoping they would of lasted a few years longer before thes issues started popping up If you're considering buying the ASTRO A50s then I hope this helps you decide

I've had Astro A50's for about 4-5 years and have experienced the exact same issues as yourself. The wiggling on the base station is so annoying and eventually it stops charging from the base station altogether (can still be charged via usb wire), My friend also had this headset and this issue too so seems super common. Popping and crackling also happen pretty often which becomes so annoying once you notice it, add to that the random disconnecting or not being recognised when I turn my console on every single time makes them not good value for money. I've just ordered the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless so hopefully will be superior.

I usually have to repeat the process 3 - 4 times before they kick back on. I sometimes even have to power them down and do a hard restart on the headset. Not sure if this is normal wear and tear, but I would have expected them to last a bit longer, considering the price. Sound and Comfort are top notch though; no complaints there. I've had A50s for awhile and am liking them less and less (I'm getting the Arctis Nova Pros). The A50 base station realistically needs an optical connection. Since PS5 doesn't have an optical port, you're forced to use an HDMI splitter (unless your TV/Monitor has an optical port to connect to the A50 base station). The A50s cut out whenever my monitor swaps from 60Hz to 120Hz games. The base station randomly doesn't charge the headset because it appears the base station doesn't receive enough power from the PS5 in rest mode. The Novas look like such a better, newer package.

Having owned A50's (for about a year) within the past 5 years, I can pretty safely say that I will never own them again. Absolute garbage, overpriced garbage. As a PC player, I have been using Sennheiser HD6XX and Fiio FD5's for over 2 years and I love them. But I wanted a wireless option, and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless has really just blown me away! Sound quality and sound stage is top notch for a wireless headphone, and Sonar in the GG software really makes the headset shine even more especially with all the presets made in collaboration with professionals per game. To date, Sonar is the only digital surround sound that actually works! I wasn't sure I was going to keep them when I got them, but after using them for over a month, they are here to stay for sure. Also, feel like I should note this, I VERY rarely ever even notice the in-ear mic for the noise cancelling. Like I've had the headset for over a month and I have noticed them maybe twice. I adjusted the headband and haven't noticed them since. Screw Astro for not actually innovating or improving over the past 15 years. I had the generation before this current one, and my friend had the original ones. I can safely say that they have changed nothing about the headset since it came out except that it has a wireless charging dock. Big deal. The A40's are literally the same headphone they were when the first one came out. It's shameful considering they've been making how much money off of these plastic headsets! Their margin on these at $350 must be insane! Nobody should be buying Astro headphones.

Hello, I live in Brazil and I've enjoyed your content very much. Congratulations on your work! I'd like your help in deciding which model would be best for me. Many of the models you mentioned are not available here, so I've gathered some of the best options within my reach: 1. The Nova 7X, available in Brazil for 1,200 Brazilian reais on Amazon. 2. The Arctis 9X, priced at 1,200 Brazilian reais, available on Octoshop. 3. The Astro A40 with MixAmp Pro, available for 1,200 Brazilian reais on Kabum. 4. The Astro A40 with MixAmp M80, priced at 800 Brazilian reais. 5. The Astro A50, available for 1,700 Brazilian reais on Kabum. 6. The HyperX Cloud Orbit S Gaming Headset, priced at 1,300 Brazilian reais on Kabum. 7. Nova Pro with a wired connection, priced at 1,700 Brazilian reais on Kabum. 8. HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset for 700 Brazilian reais. I should mention that the Nova Pro Wireless is out of consideration due to its high price. However, the wired version (1,700 Brazilian reais on Kabum) could be a viable option. It's also worth mentioning the G Pro 2 headset, priced at 1,200 Brazilian reais on Kabum. During the decision-making process, I switched from a Redragon Zeus to a G733 and have had a good experience with the wireless headset. However, I'm not sure if this criterion alone would be sufficient to eliminate a headphone from potential choices. I'm willing to pay for what offers me the most, but I'd like to make a choice that gives me value for my money. As I analyze, I'm torn between the A50 or Cloud 2 (the best wireless options for gaming), the 9X or the Nova 7X (the best wireless options for general use, like music and mobile use), and the HyperX Cloud Orbit S Gaming Headset or the Nova Pro (the best wired options). I've seen some reviews that highlight the advantages of each. Some videos mention that the MixAmp Pro is worth it, while others claim it doesn't make a difference and is just a luxury. SteelSeries has the advantage of Bluetooth and P3 connection, as well as equalizers and software on both models. However, what's holding me back from making a choice is the RMA service, as the criteria mentioned are very personal and can vary depending on how the headset is used. The Astro series is praised for its excellent RMA service, especially in Brazil. On the other hand, SteelSeries is a lesser-known company in Brazil, with few Brazilian reviews available. You were the only one I found. Could you clarify if SteelSeries' RMA really works here? How would it be possible to contact them? Based on your experience and analysis of the mentioned advantages, do you have any advice on the best option? For a wireless option for general use, would it be better to choose the 9X, Nova 7X, or one of the other options I mentioned? For gaming, the best wireless option would be the Astro A50, Cloud 2, or another option? For wired, would it be better to choose the Orbit S, Nova Pro, or another option? Note: I plan to start using the headset for music in the future, but the microphone is not a concern as I have a dedicated Zealsound microphone. Lastly, I would like to reiterate that I greatly admire your work and am eagerly awaiting your response. Thank you!

Why don't any of these reviews mention soundstage and the differences it makes depending on closed vs open back? That is the reason the Astros are performing like you're explaining with the sound. Since you prefer that isolated sound feel, try the closed back kit for the Astros. Me personally, I can't deal with closed back sound. I don't like when the sound feels like it's in my ear. I want to feel like I'm surrounded by it which is what open-back provides.

The noise canceling on the Novas is not as good as I thought it was. I honestly couldn’t even notice if it was on. Also, the sweaty leather ear covers are irritating. I’m hoping they make an alternative pair. I’m going to try the Novas for a a few more days but if nothing stands out other than Bluetooth than I think I might just keep my A50s and return the Novas. DT1990 Pro offer significantly more detail than the A40s even without the headphone amp. Also using the Shure MV7 as my XLR Mic. Love the MV7! The Astro A40s were king for a good while but they've definitely rested on their laurels. I don't think they're that great for FPS games any more. The competition has upped the ante for sure.

The notorious unreliability of the arctis hinges worries me alot about these new steel series, my arctis 9x hinges cracked 12 months after purchase and to be fair I've been pretty delicate handling them, and they've still cracked. I'm really leaning towards the astros because I've seen less durability issues on reddit about the astros compare to steel series, however I absoulutely loved the ease and use of the Bluetooth connectivity of my arctis 9x and I'd really like that on a new headset but one preferably won't cracked on the hinges after 12 months. The nova pros look like the same hinges. So on the fence on this one.

Hi Techne, great job with all these videos 🔝👍 I agree with you. I recently returned the A50 because the top part pop off every 5 minutes (ok I can modify it and try to fix it but no, it's just not good for 280 euro headset after 1 week), I feel the base too much fragile (sometimes charge and sometimes no, I need to adust the headset on it) and I don't like the sound. I like it only when used with dolby atmos but even this isn't good. I think good headset has to sound good just out of the box, virtual surround ad software EQ adjustments has to be a plus for me, not the necessary thing to do. I mean, I can use dolby atmos even on 100 euro headset and have pretty much the same result. I'm thinking about to buy the A40 TR but I find your video of the nova pro and change my mind. For the 90% of time I'm at desk so I'll definitely go with the nova pro wired, I'm very curios to try them. I love Astro's too but, as you can say, they need to upgrade. The Nova pro wireless caught my attention. As much as I love my Razer Kaira Pro there is a significant flaw with them. The sound quality is great. Especially with DTX. Ever so often especially when the battery starts draining to below 70% there is a significant distortion sound that occurs where the base pulsates up and down making game and chat sound robotic. Not to mention using the Xbox app for them is hit or miss. Only way to fix this is to turn off the Kaira headset and back on again. As frustrating as it is it takes about 5 sec to turn off and 5 sec to turn on. This is annoying especially when you are deep in the action of a game. Hopefully the Nova pro wireless will be a significant upgrade from my Razer Kaira Pros but $350 is kind of ouchies on the wallet.

Hey Techne, Love your content but not sure why you never mention a HUGE benefit of the A50’s or the old Arctis Wireless Pros, the Optical port on the base station? That port is removed in the new Novas & allows simultaneous audio with anything through the TV & your PC. Not too mention it makes it a headset that works with ANY console from any generation & PC simultaneously. Just seems like a big feature to omit in your critique. Thanks for the great videos. @@ny1523 oh I see. My tv’s optical is connected to my sound bar. My ps5 is currently connected to a monitor and I’m not sure if any monitors even include optical. That’s probably why they got rid of optical in that it’s much easier to just transfer the audio data through a usb cable. If you don’t have a pc in your living room to connect the usb into you’re just running two cables (one optical and one usb) to the same base station when the usb is sufficient for just one console. More ports is always better tho.

If sound and sound alone is all you care about and you're fine with having g terrible range, battery life, and a less than sub par mic because you have a boom...then penrose win. But, never having to charge them, having a mic that my friends couldn't tell I wasn't using the yeti, being able to just walk away and have them connected to my phone, and the control within Sonar, it's worth slightly less amazing sound. I still hear birds chirp and leaves blow by in AC odyssey, still here every footstep and can tell exactly where they are in WZ, and music still sounds great, so I made the switch.

The mic on the nova is horrible. Sound on a50 I like more, comfort wise the a50 all the way. I have both and I do use the steelseries just because of the double batteries especially with home working days followed by a gaming evening the instant battery swap wins it out for me. But for the price you get a lot of gimmicky features you won't use anyway.. Might as well have upgraded the mic to a higher end version

Ok my beef with the Nova Pros is the Nub in the ear cups and my ears burning up. Sound is fantastic
