I honestly don't know much about you Stella, but you remind me why I admire Dolly. You're a family of smart, compassionate women who do good in the world. Wish there were more of your kind. ❤

I guess they learn enough about Black Country Artist from Deford Bailey in 1930. Roy Acuff and Uncle Dave Macon were good friends of his. Deford was also an early Grand Ole Opry Performer. GBY, Ted Woods

Thanks so much for sharing with us. Ruby Falls: Ruby Falls AKA Bertha Dorsey: who was born Bertha Bearden, in Jackson, TN, & raised by her grandparents. She attended a one room school house taught by Mrs. Rhea, who taught grades 1-8. She attended a small church. Bertha's grandfather died when she was young. Her her strict grandmom had a heart of gold. She worked as a midwife & hated to see hungry kids. Bertha was raised on a farm with animals: she picked cotton & strawberries. She said "once you've picked cotton, nothing else seems too difficult." Bertha was an only child. She was close with her cousins. Her cousins visited her often. Bertha & her cousins had fun playing & getting into trouble. At night, she would listen to country music on her radio. Bertha loved singing. She sang everywhere: school, church & anywhere she could. After graduating from school, Bertha was off to Wisconsin. Her mother & step father lived in Wisconsin & sang soul music. Bertha performed with several bands including: Harvey Scales and the Seven Sounds. Some reviews called Bertha the 8th sound. Bertha later met & married Floyd Dorsey, a musician. Together they performed all over.. Country music was Bertha's heart: so in 1974 she moved to Nashville, TN. She got signed to a small record label called: 50 States Records: she then got the stage name of: "Ruby Falls" a popular landmark. Ruby Falls was the second Black female artist to chart on the Billboard country charts (one of only 7 to date). RUBY FALLS had the fourth highest charted song. Ruby holds the record for most charted singles for a Black, female artist. Ruby was the second Black lady to appear on the Grand Ole Opry. Ruby Falls performed on almost every country music TV show (except Hee Haw). Ruby Falls also performed with: 1. Kenny Rogers 2.Bill Anderson 3. Barbara Mandrell 4. Justin Tubb 5. Faron Young 6. Chet Atkins 7. Pat Boone She performed with many other country music artist. Ruby Falls toured all over the US playing in almost ever state. Ruby Falls achieved success in country music: & we owe to the legacy of black women of country music like Ruby Falls, Lamelle Prince, & Linda Martell not to ever forget black, female, country music artist like Ruby Falls. A documentary movie about Ruby Falls is in the works. A book is also suppose to be in the works. A Ruby Falls instagram account called: @findingrubyfalls has also been set up.

Well said Stella, you’ve always had got a heart of gold and you’ve stayed true to the roots of your raisin. Your words should cause all of us to stop and count our blessings; and to have more empathy for artists and people in life that have not received the opportunities they should have due to circumstances beyond their own control. I’m thankful I got to stand beside you and play guitar on a couple of songs during your shows when we booked you a few times at the Ocean Opry Show in Panama City Beach, FL years ago. I’ll never forget it as long as I live. We (the Rader Family) sold our venue in 2005, but the memories we made are priceless. btw, I performed on the steps of the little white church at Dollywood in October 2021 during Harvest Fest for a few days. I always enjoy when you share feelings and stories from your heart. Another memory came to light when you mentioned Joe Taylor booking agency. My dad (Wayne) who passed away in 2015 booked a lot of acts through Joe back in the day. God bless you!

Thank you so much Stella for always being so straightforward and honest without ever losing the respect. You and your sister Dolly too have helped me through a pretty tough time. I'm really lucky that I found you two because you are the perfect example that there still are good persons around the planet. As I'm a young person who grew up in a pretty conservative region in Germany I've already had to face a lot of difficulties in my life...but you are always giving me back the hope everyone's in need of these days. Being different than a bigger group is not easy especially when it comes to politics and stuff like that. Also my love for country music is a quite "special" thing where I live, people always remind you that you're not like them and that you don't fit into their imagination of how one has to be. You have shown be how to care less about them although the fight for being accepted by them is pretty hard. Thank you a lot Stella, you're one of my big idols!!!

So happy to discover your channel Stella! The story you tell here about your friend Ruby is so moving! We are around the same age and I hoped that we had seen the worst of racism in our youth, but unfortunately there has been a resurgence of it! Thanks for this story and blessings to you!
