Overtuned origin is probably the main reason why I'm looking forward to owning the Toxoids DLC. As well as cheesing slaver builds with the Noxious trait. Noxious Lithoid Necrophage Technocracy with an Aquatic prepatent species. God, that is good.

One thing I've always felt was a disappointing aspect of lithoids, is that although you technically get +50 leader lifespan on them, they always start at age 50-70 instead of 20-40, so you only get +20 at most, but more often than not less than +10. Don't understand why they chose to do that, it seems somewhat misleading.

Ok, so if i understand correctly, there are two overtuned traits which boost research (20% and 10%), which do not exclude each other or the regualar intelligence perk (10%) Combine that with "damn the consequences", which double the overtuned traits, giving us the following calculation: (20 + 10) x 2 + 10 = 70 You can have a 70% research boost from the start of the god damn game. Talk about overpowered. And those are the research traits alone.

@@eycariot987 "Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice i am willing to make" Sure, there is always the question of if it is woth it, but i think this is not so bad. Of course, this origin may not be for everyone, but i like the challenge of not just surviving, but thriving in difficult situations (at least in videogames) The Food cost could become meaningless if the player can enslave another species and turn them into livestock (if the player is a xenophobe) I know from experience that the imense food output of livestock thrall-worlds can quickly become insane. Food will be a problem early on, but i think it could be done. Leaders is a bit more tricky, but i personally don't think that leader lifespan matters that much. I am fine with a bunch of low-level leaders. Keeping them alive long enought to actually do something could be possible with the leader trait which gives extra lifespan, or with the many tricks discussed in the video. While i do not expect most players to go to these leangths just to boost research to this imense degree, i like that is is an option that can be used. I am pretty sure that abusing the overtuned pop-growth trait would be more effective in the long run, but i like the possibilities.

I would honestly buy Toxoids just for this origin alone. It adds a lot of flexibility to your empire. The ability to rush for clone vats early for the extra pop assembly is huge in the long term. Additionally, being able to specialize your pops for each individual world's focus is incredible. The sheer pop efficiency you can attain is insane. The main limiting factor is going to be the society research needed to modify pops, but even that can be overcome if you tech rush a bit. I feel like Overtuned empires are going to be a bit slower to start, but will scale really well in the long run if you manage everything correctly.

I love the changes they're making to genetic ascension since it's my favorite path. But something I wish they'd add is some sort of need-based population growth since I feel like the main benefit of genetic ascension is being able to make specialized subspecies. I'd like to there be a feature where if I have multiple specialized templates for a species, then when it tries to grow that species, it would take into account the available job slots for that planet. Doesn't have to be 100% efficient, I just want to build a new mining district with a peace of mind that the planet would grow strong industrious pops to fulfil those jobs instead of my weak intelligent natural engineers doing every job on the planet

It does make me curious, if Teachers of the Shroud is the Psionic Ascension rush and Overtuned is the Genetic Ascension rush, is the Mechanist origin considered the Synthetic Ascension rush or is it suspected that, with the proposed Ascension rework, there might be a future origin for Cybernetic Ascension rushing? Also, speaking of Overtuned Lithoids, I wonder if you can afford the increased mineral upkeep for Damn the Consequences early enough, if it'd be worth taking the Excessive Endurance overtuned trait and hitting the edict so that your lithoids in the early game have 100% habitability on all planets? That might be interesting at least. And specialized planets and pops (provided you can keep them from migrating) could get silly with that edict and setup, giving pops on one planet +45% minerals or energy at the trait level, or +55% if they also have that Juiced Power one as well. Then of course you have your research planet with both boosted overtuned intelligence traits. It does seem like there's a lot you can do with it.

You can get 30% research speed + 15% ENG speed for the cost of 20 leader life span. The extra trait point you get at the start of the game allows you to get Enduring. So the -40 life span turns into -20. Also you can get clone organs as hivemind for +20 lifespan. So this is pretty dope.

Overtuned with the new node system for hiveminds is kinda crazy. The leader and nodes never die, so you only really have to worry about scientists governors and admirals. Since you can gene mod straight from the start you can create a template on a different colony and hire those leaders from there. Allowing you to stack the crazy OP crap and get normal admirals, governors, and scientists. My favorite so far is Invasive species, budding, preplanned growth hive mind. Non adaptive is just free 2 trait points with Invasive species. As it buffs invasive by 5 habitability and pop growth at the cost of 10 habitability so you only lose 5 habitability for +2 trait points. You use a lot of food with damn the consequences, but you know what else goes good with food, organic reprocessing. There's also a hive mind edict to give more pop growth for more food. I have had a game where I had over 400 pops by year 50 all from growth, no conquest. All this and you are still left with 2 civic slots, 1 to start with and another when you get the tech. So you have some options on playstyle still.

I can make a researcher race that has some insane buffs. Free traits can include: Brain slugs: +10% research output Somewhat uplifted: +10% research output (could be obtained if you are playing PvE or being an empire that starts of with a low fleet size and then snowballs, but takes a while to happen especially in large galaxies) Psionic: +10% research output (obtained from having a migration treaty with a psionic empire, chances are they will transcend your pops and you can then apply it to you species) Traits with cost: Erudite: +20% research output Augmented intelligence: +10% research output Elevated synapses: +20% research output Consequences be damned edict: +30% research output One of the three discipline traits: +15% research output in respective field That is around +80% (+95% in one field) research output and 110% (+125% in one field) for the edict, and that is not counting outside bonuses like academic privilege and that the ascension path overhaul would give access to cybernetic traits, which is likely robotic traits like what aspec said, so a cybernetic empire can add a 10% research trait onto your species, which leads to +90% (105%) research output or 120% (135%) research output; and that overhaul does not account for transgenesis of leviathans with the genetic ascension and if some would provide research benefits. To counteract the low lifespan of your pops if they are your primary species, take the long life trait when starting out (+20 years) if you take both overtuned traits (so net -20 lifespan) and then replace it with robust (+50 years, net +10 lifespan) and focus on life expanding repeatables, but I would recommend that you don’t get too attached to your first couple researchers even if you get to reapeatables before the halfway point of the early game.

Unless they include an easier way to manage the genetic traits of your species, especially in empires with *a lot* of species in them, I think the micro this is encouraging will be a big hassle. An idea to make gene clinics actually useful would be the ability to make a genetic template for the clinic that will gradually modify all pops on the planet to said template if possible. Hopefully this one will instead be later reworked to be path to cybernetic ascension and biological ascension will instead be applied on reworked Clone Army. I also feel like it once again is a hidden nerf to psionic ascension. Teachers of the Shroud was introduced specifically so that psionics can cement their place as earliest available ascension. Now geneticists can catch up to it and also fully ascend at 20 year mark. I feel like both synths and cyborgs will also get similar reworks and also push for the same line, making psionic ascension once again, the weakest.
