I take forever on animations and whenever you release a new vid I learn something new and applicable to whatever project I'm doing. Currently making a game grumps animated and I swear people will probably see visible progress on what I learned as the scenes progress. And I'm ever grateful for that!

@@OnionSkinI'd say the part about giving the face an ability to move around the head as it was. Allows for a simpler smaller head turn before a change in pose.

Neat spider! Quick and easy solution. Here’s a topic for a new video. How about you try to create a moderately complicated leg rig? I’m wondering how you‘re going to make the deformers and hierarchy that would allow the animator to switch between classic FK and some system that resembles IK. 100 % inverse kinematics is not just impossible to create in Harmony without heavy-duty scripting but also not necessary since it makes the character “made of wood”. A couple of years ago, my team and I tried to write an IK expression. Oh well, it worked, but only in After Effects. As it turned out, Harmony’s java syntax is different.

It’s a great suggestion. I hesitate a little because it’s common for new riggers to really go down the rabbit hole of making things far too complex to the point it actually holds animators back. I’m my experience I’m noticing animators preferring more limited rigs that are easy to modify on the fly, although keen to hear if your experience has been different. For a standard leg build I do a 3 piece auto patched envelope with the top of the hierarchy in the foot, as I find realigning a thigh to the hip is a lot more forgiving than a foot to the floor.

@@OnionSkin That’s exactly the point of finding the balance between functionality, usability and preparation time. As you probably know, there are plenty of scripts that can create a nearly perfect limb rig, but only in 3D. If only Harmony would support a fracture of Maya features! Alas. I’m going to try scripting again, but next time I’ll let ChatGPT figure out the syntax differences.
