Well that was less scary than I was expecting. I've made a circle skirt before, and I swore I would never do it again, this just might change my mind. Thanks for the easy math lesson. The skirt you made is lovely and you look great in it.

Thank you for the Douglas Adams reference. It helps. Last week I found a Whack of Wool suiting at the local Village of Value. Enough for the wardrobe of my dreams. Just in time for the Canadian chant of "Winter is coming". I've been sewing since just before lockdown. To get over the nerves of cutting into fabric I could never actually afford, I'm starting with a circle skirt. And I'm going to make it lined, because I've never actually lined a skirt before. And the pockets are getting upsized to the Victorian ones from Patterns of Fashion. So. Upping the game on every conceivable front. No pressure. hee. hee. Last time I did a circle skirt I made two extra cuts into the fabric in order to give myself a centre back and side seams. Because I couldn't figure out how to work in pockets and back zip otherwise. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown

@@NoraMurrell The whole upping ze game thing? It's giving me a case of the pre-cutting-nerves. But First I have to re-find the sewing room / slash / living room. Stalling. Who's stalling...

Amazing how much the crinoline makes a difference in the movement.

A circle skirt was my very first project when I got back into sewing last year. It really is one of the best beginner projects out there. The most intimidating thing I found about it at the time was just the sheer amount of Fabric I was having to handle at once.

the volume of fabric is flat out shocking.

Well ok, but you could just use metric and no more fractions of an inch issues. Nice tutorial.

But that would require America (my main watchers) to reject 14th century’s King Edward II of England’s ruling that 1 inch equals 3 grains of barley placed end to end lengthwise. And America has been quite loyal to this.

@@NoraMurrell I did not know it was based on 3 grains of barley....the system is bad but unfortunately I'm already not good with numbers and measurements so changing it after 28 years is a no go for me lol.
