Hi, John with etrailer. Hey listen, if you've got a Camry and you're ready to open up your world to bike racks, cargo carriers, and light duty towing, then check out this option here. This is the CURT Class 1 Receiver Hitch and we installed it on our 2018 Toyota Camry. So let's take a closer look at this CURT hitch and how it fits on our Camry right off the bat here. Now this is gonna be a Class 1 receiver hitch. And what that means is your receiver opening here, it's gonna be 1 1/4" by 1 1/4".
Now CURT has reinforced this collar and this is powder coated, a gloss black. Now the cross tube on here is hidden. It's actually tucked up inside. So what you see here is the only thing you're gonna see with this hitch. It's gonna have wire type chain hangers on here and those are good for your standard S hook if you're doing some towing.
And if you have a different type, like a heavy duty Clevis style, there's still plenty of room on the CURT hitch for those as well. Now keep in mind, when you purchase this hitch, it's gonna be the hitch by itself. So if you are gonna be doing any light duty towing, you're gonna want to pick up a pin and clip. This is a half inch pin and clip. We have these available here at etrailer.
If you want a little bit more security, we also have the type that lock. Now keep in mind, if you are in the market for cargo racks or bike racks, a lot of those accessories already include an anti-rattle pin and clip with them. Now speaking of accessories, let's get some measurements of where the hitch fits in relationship to the ground and how it fits on our Camry here. So ground clearance. From the ground to the top of the inside collar here, we're gonna be looking at 10 3/4 inches.
And then the other measurement that we like to get is gonna be from the center of the pin hole, where our pin and clip go to the edge of our bumper here. And it's gonna be three inches. Now these numbers are important, obviously. If you're gonna be doing some light duty towing, you're probably gonna want a ball mount that comes out and has a rise to it so it can match your trailer's height, so your trailer's riding level with your car. Or if you have bike racks, the cargo carriers, and they have a stowed folding position, you wanna make sure that that isn't going to impact the back of your bumper. And once again, speaking of those accessories, finally, let's talk about the weight capacities on this hitch. Now being a Class 1 hitch, of course, it's gonna be smaller numbers, but it's what you need for your car here. So as far as the tongue weight rating, that's gonna be the force pushing down on your hitch, you're looking at 200 pounds. That's plenty if you've got, you know, an e-bike or if you want a couple of bikes on your bike rack. As far as the weight rating for towing, we're looking at 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight rating. Now keep in mind, that's gonna be the weight of your trailer and then anything that you put in it or on it. And of course, you wanna check with your Toyota's owner's manual to find out how much weight you can actually tow. My final thoughts on the CURT hitch, I like CURT's products. I think they do a great job. I like the reinforced collar on this hitch, especially being a smaller hitch like that. That's just a little bit of reassurance. I think their finish is great, their welds are great. They just put out a nice product. And especially, the way that it fits on this Camry. These new Camrys really have sleek styling and you just don't want a big eyesore back here. And having a hidden cross tube and then you just have this small receiver tube down here, I think it fits the car well. So once it take to install it, really, the hardest part is gonna be enlarging two holes on the frame. You're probably gonna need to get a special drill, but it's called a step bit to be able to get the hardware up into the frame. That's really the hardest part. All the work's gonna be done underneath. You don't have to take the bumper off or anything like that. You do have to do some minor trimming. So if you think that you want to see how to install it, if you can do it yourself, we've got the video on it. If you want to see what a shop has to go through to install this on your car, then stick around. We're gonna go get it into the shop and show you how it's done. Now to begin our installation, we're going need to lower the exhaust. So if you have a set of ramps at home that you could back the car up on to get a little bit more ground clearance. that's gonna help you out a lot. So what we need to do is take a cam buckle tiedown strap and we're go
