really beautiful! i was looking for a step stool design that could be disassembled so my relatives could pack it in a suitcase.. totally stealing this. i'm not experienced enough to make nice dovetails, much less angled dovetails, so will probably use box joints instead. assuming the wedges are tight, it should keep the joint closed.

Beautiful stool. A couple of thoughts. Don't chisel towards your other hand. It's a bad habit. Use a clamp. I always oil walnut before applying varnish to bring out the grain. Danish oil is almost as good. I use linseed oil.

Very nice piece. I will try to replicate it as a present for my 5 yr old grand daughter. Two questions: Did you made any adjustments on the dove tales due to de angulated edges? What color of Watco oil did u use? Congrats on your engagement.
@HipsterCarpenter
8 жыл бұрын
Hey Fernando, I just matched the base of the dove tails to the angle I cut the pieces at (roughly 15 degrees). The oil is just natural color. Good luck with your build, and thanks!

@fernandocastillo8187

Hello again. Just to let you know that I was finally able to make it. Gosh those 15 degrees caused me a lot of trouble. I did not realize that you have to cut a lot of angled edges. Those in the mortises were the most difficult ones. I did everything without power tools, so it was a bit more difficult. I think that was mainly because I chose a too hard local wood that looks a lot like walnut (it's called Tzalam), but it is real hard to work with hand tools. It took me much more time than you, but I was able to give it to my Grand daughter. She loves it and the rest of the family too. I owe you one.

This is an excellent video showing that a masterpiece can be created as a result of true craftsmanship. You've journeyed beyond just working with your hands and head. From the video, the care you put into every measurement, every cut, I'd say your heart was well into it as well which makes you an artist in this field. I commented because I like your work. Nice job but please consider what many of us have commented on, you must respect all cutting tools especially the table saw. You are leaving no margin for error when you place your fingers so close to the blade. Table saws and band saws will cut fingers off in a split second making future woodworking difficult. Please improve your techniques for safety sake and you will probably increase your viewers and subscribers as well. Too scary for me to watch right now, not kidding.
