Steph kind of broke the game because after 2016-17, every NBA team knows that they would have no chance of competing with the Warriors unless they have a lineup to all switch on defense. To defend Curry, every team has to have most players on the court which is quick enough to contest his iso threes because he can hit more than half of his iso threes against slowing bigs. So unless bigs on your team is contributing a lot in offense and somehow mobile, you basically lose your job. We all can see why teams had this radical change of defensive scheme because if you guard him straight up like normal elite three point shooter, he is capable of burying 16 threes a game just like in all star game.

What needs mention is how strong he has to be. I can shoot some long three's but he makes them look effortless. Look at the arc he has on the half court shot. It's like a set shot from half court with really good arc on it. If you play you know you have to be super strong to shoot that with set feet.

This is actually much more difficult than hitting dozens of consecutives 3´s in a row from the same spot. The difficulty in shortening and widening the distance in every shot and scoring nothing but net is just unreal.
@ClassicMist360
2 жыл бұрын
It is more difficult yes, but not by a huge margin, as he's only moving 2-3 feet back between each shot, not changing the angle of the shot either. The MOST difficult would be to consistently change the range and angle of the shot by a bigger margin (the bigger the margin the harder it is obviously), backing up a couple of feet is essentially almost the same as when you're zeroed in at one spot, you only have to increase the force put into the shot by a small margin. Not to say steph isn't the GOAT of shooting, but the hard part of this ISNT that he's slightly backing up each time, but that he is shooting much farther beyond the 3pt line.

@@ClassicMist360 Hi. 1/I agree that different angles is a serious extra problem. Maybe not for Curry:) 2/Regarding different distances, paradoxically, some of the most difficult shots are those between short and midrange, especially for people as strong as NBA players (Curry is said to be incredible strong for his frame). To be able to adjust that quick to the shorter distances after hitting 3´s from the logo is very difficult. 3/Where I disagree is that the most difficult thing is to score so much farther beyond the arc. When not disturbed by defenders, pro players go crazy in practice. For example, I attended a Spanish national team practice, and there was Pau Gasol. He ended up being an incredibly accurate 3-point shooter, but he was mainly a gifted post player. He shot three consecutive times from half-court and he scored nothing but net all of them. No kidding. It looked like he could go do it like I score layups:)
@ClassicMist360

@@purpleman1974 whether or not pro players do better in practice than in an actual game doesnt change its still much harder to shoot the farther you get away. And yes if you switch drastically from shooting from the logo to midrange, you might miss more at midrange until you get used to it again, but like I mentioned, he slowly progressed out from midrange to half court, then back in. That slow progression makes it much much easier to hit those shots, as the adjustment you need to make for each shot only changes slightly. Ive done this warmup personally many times, and I'm an above average shooter compared to most people, and probably either on par or above a lot of college players too (definitely not any from Duke or other highly nationally ranked colleges, of course), and I can tell you from personal experience alone that the hardest part of this warmup is extending your range beyond the 3. But yeah i think it's at the point to where Curry makes people forget how insanely hard it is to shoot from insanely far consistently, like from the logo. He makes it look so easy and we've become used to it at this point. Truly a gifted player.
