Colbert is a fantastic interviewer. He's so smart and can interview anyone on any subject. I really look forward to hearing Interviews with people other than actors who have movies coming out. There are exceptions ie. Tom Hanks. He's a terrific conversationalist.

Letterman has been around for 40 years. He pushed so many talents and made their careers with his show. I don't find him so funny either compared to Colbert, but you gotta think after so many years it's hard to stay fresh and on top of it all.

I do find Letterman really likable. I was maybe 1 year old when he first started his show, and friends of mine who were actually conscious at that point tell me that he was Colbert level hilarious back then. While I don't see it now necessarily, I can believe it. He is really cool and charismatic, and after doing it for so long I can imagine anyone just mellowing out over a similar period of time.

I went to Loyola Marymount for a while with George Lucas's son Jett and he was a really cool guy but we always felt awkward talking about his dad, especially after the South Park Indiana Jones episode. I came up with this back then and it is still true: The only kids with a celebrity parent who probably wouldn't take a shitload of jokes about them are Stephen Colbert's kids. All I can think of people saying to them is "you have the coolest dad ever"

Letterman is really funny but I think my favourite talk show is Conan because I love the way Conan and Andy interact. Having said that, I do love Letterman's "Small Town News" segment which doesn't have an equivalent on Conan. Even though Jon Stewart gets all the praise, Stephen Colbert is at least twice as funny. I love his pseudo-conservative character.

@goodcoffie Many people watched a congressional hearing for the 1st time to see Colbert, he not only raised the plight of farm workers, he also introduced an apathetic viewer to a crucial aspect of democracy. The problem is not simple, poor mexican farmers are crossing the border because US farm subsidies have destroyed their livelihoods in Mexico, Immigration will fall if the US stops farm subsidies, BUT expect to pay a lot more for your meals.

@oNealProductions US laws don't apply to kids in Germany because they are in Germany. But if one of them traveled to NY, US laws would apply to him. He would for instance be afforded freedoms of speech which he is denied back home. American laws apply to every legal person (check wikipedia for what that means exactly) on American soil. Even foreigners and foreign corporations doing business here. Citizenship has nothing to do with it, rights are intrinsic and inalienable.

For you who wonder, Colbert was always in character in public appearances until recently; There's an interview with him on a news show and then speaking at Northwestern Commencement where he isn't. But after the Bush years there's just not the neurotic fodder anymore. He's not as stringent. He may be doing other characters sometimes?

@deinse81 What disturbs me though, is that the end result of the Citizens United decision is not truly about "speech" but that foreign corporations can spend an unlimited amount of money, millions and millions of dollars, to influence elections within the US and for the most part, we aren't even allowed to know who they are. Campaign finance was effed enough to begin with.

@denise81 Corporations are not all held in America. By supporting Citizens United you are allowing foreign money to swing the outcome of US elections. This is a national security concern. Foreign entities have never been able to vote in the US or influence our political process, now they can quite easily.

@goodcoffie Um, Stephen Colbert was there to prove that illegal immigrants are not "taking Americans' jobs away." There were only like 7 Americans who actually showed up for work. Maybe you should watch his show. I'm not surprised at all that many in Congress are to stupid to get it. But that's really not his fault or problem. He's so sweet, always seems to be so full of energy :) Bless him and Jon Stewart.

@goodcoffie that's too bad about her nephew, may he rest in peace. however, the fact that he was murdered by an illegal immigrant means exactly nothing. you can't generalize about an entire group of people from the actions of one, that's called stereotyping. it's offensive, and completely ungrounded in fact. by the way, the fact that she's black has no relevance in this instance either.

@oNealProductions Right. You want corporations and foreigners (with special emphasis on foreigners who own corporations) to not have the same freedom of speech other legal persons have, because you hate them. You can't have that here, the First Amendment of the US Constitution forbids it. We already covered all this.
