As it happens, Hugh Laurie indeed went on to write a book called _The Gun Seller_, published in 1996.

He was going to do a book before Stephen but he got two out first and so he waited so he wouldn't be compared and used his middle names as the author instead of Hugh Laurie

Terry Wogan loved playing with people’s names. I remember on the radio he’d call Shirley Bassey Burly Chassis and Olivia Newton John Olivia Neutron Bomb. Just one of his things.

How did we not notice what a massive jerk Wogan was, all those years?
@dionlindsay2
5 жыл бұрын
We did though - his TV stuff was doomed from the start. But he was terrific on radio, at least until he started becoming a cliché of himself. At which point he would admit in interviews he'd run out of ideas when he was interviewed and go back and do the same stereotype he had invented in the 70s and 80s.

You have to remember this was January 1992 and Wogan was told by the BBC that his chat show was being axed in favour of the awful soap Eldorado. So, you can't really blame Wogan for not having heart when he knows he will be ending this show which he loved doing since 1985. The BBC tried to sweeten the pill and move him to Friday nights later in 1992, it didn't work.

Am I missing some of that British humor again or is the host kind of a jerk? lol They are very harsh on themselves anyway, so self-deprecating it's unbelievable.

It's entirely intentional. He was actually a very well respected and loved man. Though his radio work and commentary on Eurovision were MUCH better than his TV work.
