Stephen Fry is at the very top of my Dream Dinner Party Guest List, I would sell both kidneys and rent my bourbon-battered liver to a wino for one long evening's chat with Mr. Fry. Just absolutely adore him and have done for thirty years.

Fascinating hearing the banter and characterizations about Americans and the class assumptions that surround being an American. As an undergraduate in the 1980s, I read history/politics at Oxford for a year and in college and the commons room it seemed the British students relished paling around with the Yanks, us regular Joes (despite us attending posh colleges back at home), even the town-and-gown pubs wanted to hire Yanks to work part time pulling pints and doubling as bouncers. In the interconnected world of the Internet and social media one wonders if it has all changed?

Remember the old school talk shows (not "chat" shows) where the interviewer would delve deep into the character of the guest? I would like to see a talk show hosted by Stephen Fry. Not just because he would ask fascinating questions, but perhaps more that guests would want to open up to him and reveal themselves.

why should a person who just wants love and wonder also not think that this life means nothing because the evidence is one that tells us we are the same as nothing

What did he mean by the W word? In my world that would mean either white or WASP,, but since he is from England and he is educated I'm not going to assume that. I paid attention to what this guy has to say ever since supposedly he stood up for the rights of an a****** racist for his free speech, he disagreed with this guy's personal views but he's still stood up for the guys rights. Also he was cool on Bones and his series of 50 states, where he drove in all of them , that was awesome. Thank you for the video, thumbs up.

Zetetik - Interesting you should say that! I find Stephen Fry’s conversation absolutely awful; punctuated with “umm...ah...hmm...”, and the rest is utterly pompous. Unsurprising that he sits at high table at Queens. And he makes up stories that simply aren’t true. Perhaps this is why Clive James talks a bit too much? Fry is a “rogue gent”??? And he has to tell the world that he is a member of “exclusive clubs”, some so exclusive that hardly anyone has heard of them? How sick-making.

@@quaver1239 ... at the part of the interview you're quoting, he was being sarcastic, as can be testified with Clive James gurgling with knowing laughter ... 🤗 ...
