To be fair, all these monsters only came out of a single portal which was probably quickly closed again. And at the end of the day, they are just huge animals. Bullets and fire will make quick work of them. Zombies movies like to skip the "spread" part or quickly gloss over it, and get to the part where society already collapsed. Despite the fact that the military probably would have prevented things from getting that bad to begin with.

I believe that the Behemoth is actually used as a hive for most of the creatures seen in the film, the other creatures just use it’s body as a home for themselves, seeing that the Gray-Widowers lay eggs in living / formerly living organisms. As for the worms, they likely cling on to the ribs of the Behemoth until they are at their desired location in where prey are present.
@nunyabizness7453

My theory: The Behemoth is a non-living being. It is akin to the "walkers" in Star Wars, with "people" (from the other dimension) inside. The layout of their dimension is similar to ours, so it takes them a while before they realize they aren't in Kansas anymore. I say that what they opened, was a ZOO, and, The Behemoth is The Zookeeper, complete with food and shelter for the animals.

Ehhh, Lovecraft's monsters are meant to inspire fear by giving the reader a sense of hopelessness and a feeling that they are insignificant to the larger forces at play. These creatures are just gruesome.
@THX11458

It's interesting, when script writers and movie producers use Lovecraft's general ideas from his mythos they can produce amazing classic films like The Thing, Alien, and The Mist, but when someone tries to make a direct translation of a Lovecraft story it always turns out to be a dud. Off hand I can't think of any horror/sci-fi writer whos stories are so difficult to transfer onto the big screen.

@T. Gorbach, the unfortunate difficulty of transferring a hopeless cause onto a screen and pure insanity is the sheer fact of trying to figure out some sort of medium that the audience can understand while not driving them insane. Since the main factor in a lot of Cthulhu mythos is the sheer insignificance of the protagonist and their plight as well as the sheer magnitude of what they'd have to accomplish, it's really hard to present an enthralling story onto the big screen. Where as in stories we can create the scenes and imagine the worst that is to come, in big screen there is no imagination, it's presented from the Director's Lense. And thus the Director has to have a REALLY good adaptation to manifest a compelling story that would not only entertain but translate the mythos properly. In the end, it IS theoritcally possible to do, or at least get close to... but at the same time the chances of something pulling a task so flawlessly and successfully are about the same as Valve making Half-life 3 and it meeting fan expectations instead of being a forever dissapointment

The end was pretty much black comedy, I actually lol'd. I liked the movie, but the end is seriously ridiculous: They just couldn't wait to suicide, even though they were apparently safe inside the car for a while... They attempted to escape with the car not only because of the lunatic christians, but also because they hoped for rescue somewhere out there. Out of gas? OMG hurry up with the bullets! Couldn't have been more lolzy if they pulled straws for who goes first ("Yessss! I WIN! Can't wait to get it first!")

Admittedly I've never read the book, from what you say I assume they're just stuck in the mist and waiting to "see what happens" (similar to the ending in Carpenter's 'Thing')? That'd be much better of an ending than what we got in the movie - heck, any other ending would.

AT-AT's are 74 feet. The best bet would be an AT-M6 which is 134 feet and even so the behemoth towers it by an extra 106 feet. So, not even close.

also I'm positive everyone here has heard this theory but (spoilers for end of movie) when you think about it, the crazy religious lady said sacrificing the kid would fix everything, and when he's killed at the end the mist clears and the army shows up, so she .at have been right
@LordofFullmetal

Her idea was more to do with sacrificing one person each day, I think. I don't think those were King's intentions (or the film makers).

I love it so much when there are gigantic animals/creatures in movies. I think my love for this came from a dream I had as a kid where I was in my backyard looking into the far distance and I saw a giant pterodactyl/Quetzalcoatl flying in the sky. It had to be no smaller than the island of Manhattan and was just so vivid.

TV show was fucking awful, I sat through the whole first season waiting for monsters or a breakthrough in plot development but nothing happened. They genuinely threw out the idea of monsters, I'm guessing because of the CGI costs, and replaced it with some shitty half assed psuedo-philosophical explanation about how nature doesn't like humans because we're not nice.

Good video breakdown sir, thank you. The spiders are the most scary to me. Their ability to multiply as fast as they do would make them a world threat. The lobster creature reminds me of a larger version of the one found in the "Dark Tower" books.

If you read The Dark Tower series by Stephen King (specifically book three, 'The Waste Lands'), you'd not only get better descriptions of some of these creatures, you'd also find out where they came from and get an idea of the mist from craters they were crawling into...
