Stephanie Meyers influenced millions of kids to pick up a book and read it because they enjoyed it, when they could have been watching tv or playing video games. She gave us something unique and fun..how can you all hate on her so much? She achieved a dream of her own and provided inspiration and entertainment for us. If you don't like her work there are so many wonderful books to choose from. Don't be so negative guys, its icky ;)

No matter what people say. She wrote a story. People liked it. It sold well and now she has a lot of money. Haters gonna hate but I bet many of the people who dog her out are either too scared to put their fingers to the keys themselves or they have a manuscript that can't get published. There are no rules when it comes to writing. What works, sells !

Second Part After looking at the posts on these videos, it is clear to me that the majority are either people trying to write, thinking about writing, or not have success in getting a book published. You all look at writing as something that you have to work to do. Ms. Meyer looked at writing as something that was fun and inspiring to do. The reason why she was successful maybe because she simply sit down and just wrote a dream and let it just flow. Sometimes writing is as simple as that.

First Part I disagree with the view that the audience for Ms. Meyer's book are just teenagers. I am in my 40s and really have enjoyed her books and the movies. I totally love vampires and was a fan of BTVS. I really liked that Ms. Meyer had a different view of vampires and instead of the sun having the ability to kill them....it would expose them. When did it become wrong to be creative. It may be good that she didn't know the history that has been established and provided a fresh view.
@GenieBella

She was discussing how she got the idea for her book, and she was excited about it. She was in front of an audience of people who wanted to hear what she had to say. Someone even asked about her life! That's not being an arrogant brat. Some people are just more outgoing than others. In fact, I wish I had that bit of personality.

My favorite book is Fight Club, because of it's philsophy, and what it has to say about consumerism, and how we where slaves to with no future and no goals. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm just easily lead, but I think Fight Club was really on to something and why so many people love it, because it's about am man who escaped who broke away from a life of being trapped.

Third Part As far as research. Ms. Meyer only did basic research it appears as to location, but didn't stop the inspiration that was flowing, which may be why it seemed so easy on her part. I think so many writers weigh themselves down with all of the "work" instead of just writing the story. You can worry about the facts later. There will be endless rewrites, revisions, and research to confirm the facts before any story will be ready to be published.

queries are like applications to publishers and agents . basically u have to create a sentence that states the premise for your book. Then you have to write a paragraph synopsis of the book. And thats really hard to do even if your book isn't long or complicated,summing it up in a paragraph from start to finish isn't a cakewalk. Anyway good luck with your book. Writing is hard work and any author good or bad gets props from me ^_^

I don't want to sound like a wiseacre, but Meyer sold 53 million copies of the four Twilight novels. Between 300 and 350 million copies of Kings novels and short stories were sold (over 70 novels). I think she holds herself pretty well in that section. If you really want to compare them, which again I don't think makes much sense. But as I stated before, I just thought King was a bit rude when he commented on her. His opinion doesn't influence my opinion about Twilight. I liked the books.

what you are missing is the inner conflict in Edward..you have to see this under the paradigm of the writers notions of vampire lore--she's created an entirely different beast. Once you accept the approach--you understand the conflict. New dynamic: the spiritual element of Edward's intentions conflicting with his appetites as a vampire. It's almost biblical in that sense...putting of the natural man (or in his case, unnatural/immortalvampire).

This is how it works. She saw a movie called Interview with a vampire where in the beginning Brad Pitt tried not to drink human blood. The movie was the first to assume that a vampire would not only live forever but would be young and beautiful. I'd be willing to bet she was one of the millions of girls who had a mad crush on Brad. I'm not putting her down. She had a great idea. I just think that's where it came from.

The problem is that while Edward most certainly is a "pernicious masochist," he's seen as the "harmless Barney" by most fangirls. Most refuse to acknowledge the abusive nature of the relationship, and see everything as perfectly wonderful despite the solid fact that it's not. If you recognize that for what it is, then that's fine. The concept of Twilight is one that could really, really work in the right hands. It could be an utterly terrifying story if handled right. But it wasn't.

I think the way she writes its not poetic like some good books we have, but theres an essence on hers which is simple and it brings out curiosity to the story, her way of writing. sure whatever you can say that its "nothing" but i dont see it that way, actually i do think its SOMETHING, its simple and its lovelly. but its her way of writing, you cant compare with other books, every writer has its own way of expressing the feelings.

The vampire lore of the past certainly never consisted of a relationship that anyone ever assumed was a healthy one. Well I don't hate King either. Read 2 or three of his books, and I thought they were quite average. I always had trouble to care for the characters he created, which is something that I can't say for Twilight. I think she might want to work on that.

"Last time I checked, several of King's novels became well loved film adaptations that have each done better than the Twilight film had. Examples would include Carrie and The Shawshank Redemption." You might want to check again. Twilight grossed about 383,500,000 $. The Shawshank Redemption grossed about 28.000.000 $, Carrie 33,800,000 $. But it's hard to compare as Carrie was filmed in 1974.

You're not seeing what you're reading, I think. Edward being a flawed, even monstrous character, is something I'm not against. It's the ability to distinguish between evil and love that is lacking not only in most of the fans, but in Meyer herself, who does not even acknowledge it. In prior vampire tales, for example, it was clear as day that these evil creatures were not something to be around. But now, such evil and abusive behavior is considered sexy in the minds of millions of teenage girls.

Twilight in 10 sentences: Girl sees guy for first time, falls in love. Guy sees girl for first time, falls in love. Wants to eat her. Can't because he's good vampire. Starts stalking her after third day. He's hawt, 'smart', rich, no personality aka Gary Stu. She's damsel in distress, 'beautiful', 'smart' aka Mary Sue. Many pages discribing Gary Stu's hawtness and that Mary Sue doesn't deserve him 'cause he's so hawt. Hastly added conflict: evil vamp tries to kill her but Mr. Stu saves the day.

Read what I said again. The problem is that this abusive manipulative character is seen as a harmless romantic. I'm well aware that one can't have it both ways: that's the problem! Millions of fans are completely unaware that his abusive nature is just that, and would rather believe that everything is perfect. And besides, all the things that make him an abusive masochist have no connection to vampirism anyway. He's not a scary vampire. He's a scary person. But few can see past the glitter.
