That takes me back to the golden days of motion pictures. You know, silent films. Because there's no audio.

This is very significant historical video form what many believe (including me!) was Steppenwolf's finest lineup. Steppenwolf 7 was their best album by far, not a dud song on the whole thing. They don't make 'em like that anymore! Byrom, Kay, McJohn really shine on this LP, and the songwriting was their best ever.

@friendofbeaver They're not in the rock HOF because the legacy was watered down by the mid 70's comeback (which really petered out and was met with audience disinterest after the top 40 single Straight Shooting Woman), and the JK&S band (good as it is, it's unfairly considered a 'state fair' and 'Vegas casino' entity). If the band stopped after FLO and never got back together, their reputation would be far more sterling. If there were just the '68-'71 era, and nothing more, they'd be in the HOF.

I love this. Dunhill-era Steppenwolf performing their stuff is so rare on video, but what's with the time stamp and the HC-56 dropped in the middle of the screen. It would be great to see this without that, but its probably source.

I've listen to them since 1968...... I LOVE THIS BAND. I was fortunate to see John Kay and Steppenwolf in California. What a day. BTO opened for them.

the hyprocrisy is that we live in an upside world. we steal when we should share we hate when we should love we judge when we should mind ur own fn business we want acceptance but we are unwilling to accept others. pride is our necklace that is choking us to death because we think we have to where it so tight. maybe it's not so much that's messed in the world but could it be what's so messed up in my own life that is really the problem. all the worlds a stage and i was the chief critic

Wouldn't it be great to see this entire TV show? And without the overlays on the video? This is Steppenwolf at their absolute best, writing songs at a level very few bands ever achieve. I've never heard of a rock fan who regretted buying Steppenwolf 7. I'm sure many, like me, have had it in vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD and digital formats. You don't have to be a Steppenwolf fan either. This was just one great moment in music.

John Kay, Jerry Edmonton, Goldy McJohn, Larry Byrom and George Biondo... this was Steppenwolf's greatest line-up in their greatest, even if all too brief, era: immediately following their split with producer Gabriel Mekler. It's too bad they couldn't hold this line-up together for a few more albums. Steppenwolf '7' is running away Steppenwolf's best album: solid, meaningful, rockin'... with every song killer and absolutely no filler. Hear it now, believe me later.

The first band that really said things without being pompous....If you were listening to them 40 years ago, you had to have at least some brains....

Nah, the lyrics to Hippo Stomp are too cerebral for these young folk. Went right over their head. They were expecting Born to be wild.

This is truly one of my favorite songs by John Kay and Steppenwolf. I have loved their songs since I was very young. I was very sad when I was not allowed to attend a concert with my older siblings. :) This is just a guess based on observation, but perhaps the conventional looking audience is mezmerized by Mr. Kay. That's what it seems like to me. They seem enchanted and then explode into applause. :)
