This theme was used on the January 6, 1975 show. Audio of the show's closing exists; it features a promo for the premiere of "Wheel of Fortune" airing afterward.

Title of this theme: "The Stars Come Out" by Alan Thicke. A portion of the melody strongly reminds me of the Kinks' song "Tired of Waiting For You". (Specifically, the line "please don't keep me waiting...")

McKrell would read a question and the audience would vote by pressing a celebrity number to predict which celebrity would get the answer correct. The least likely the celebrity is perceived not to know the answer, the higher the odds would appear on their respective podium.

Yeah really. I loved this show when it was first on in the 70's. It was fun!

The final question round had celebrity odds determined by the number of incorrect answers given in the entire half hour show (1:1 odds for celebrities with no wrong answers or only one wrong answer for the whole show, 2:1 for two incorrect answers, up to 6:1 for getting every answer wrong in the show) . The contestant can bet up all of their cash won in the game on the final question.

In this pic of Celebrity Sweepstakes, the only panelist who's still living is Greg Mullavey, who, I might add, was a recurring guest star of Paramount +'s reboot of iCarly starring Miranda Cosgrove. Also, the show's host, Jim MacKrell, is with us too. He's retired and living with his family in Texas.

Mispelled it. It's Jim McKrell. He later did a Golden Girls episode where he played the host of "Grab That Dough!" Better late than...pregnant!

The pilot episode had 3 contestants, but from what I have read about this show, there were only 2 contestants when the show went to air. I remember watching & enjoying this show, but I do not recall many specifics about it from my own viewing. I recall a different theme also, and the pilot had yet another theme.

And what was funny about that was that regular panelist Carol Wayne was oft times the "longshot" for most---if not all questions---and she would be, oft times, the one to get it right!!!! Blows the 'dumb blonde' theory striaght to you-know-where!!!

I've heard this before. I like it better than the first theme.

It would be great to locate the episode(s) oc Celebrity Sweepstakes in which one of the celebrity guests was Captain Kangaroo!! He also appeared in episodes of The Hollywood Squares, in 1966 and 1976.

If my old fogey memory is right this was the first of two themes used for Celebrity Sweepstakes -- and I want to say at one point durng the run they had three contestants but then changed to just having two... again, I'm just going from memory ...

The contestant would bet a dollar amount and pick a celebrity to reveal their answer. If the answer is correct, the contestant won the betting amount multiplied by the celebrity's posted odds (1:1 most likely for a correct answer) up to 99:1 (least likely) multiplied by the bet). If the celebrity answer is wrong, the contestant would lose their original bet.
