Honestly, as long as i can start at $18+ an hour i would be happy. That is what I am making at my current sales job (with commissions on top) so as long as i could match my current hourly and not have to work sales- i would be happy to work up from there. The way i look at it in my case, if I can save up to spend a couple thousand on a computer, camera equipment, and other toys- why can’t i do the same to get spt certified. If it ends up being my forever career great! If not, I still won’t regret it, because 3-6 months of my life isn’t much and I can still enjoy the job and use it to get set up financially. A win regardless for me imo.

I'm currently in Los Angeles. Will soon apply for a school on Sterile tech. In this area most hospitals want that school certification and those 400 hours volunteer work. I've seen in other states there's no need for experience to hire you but I get it it's less competition. After having multiple surgeries of my own I finally found out what I wanted to do to make a difference and give back. I'll gain my experience here and leave to AZ. California is just a dump. Thanks for your information.

In most states some hospitals will hire candidates without a certification & experience. If a inexperienced candidate gets hire they should take advantage of the training and determine if the career is for them.

@@thesterileguy Is it easy to get fired as a sterile processor?
@thesterileguy
Жыл бұрын
@@WizardsPath-if5oq That really depends on the organization you work for and your personal conduct. Most hospitals have a pretty good HR policy on discipline, and as long as you aren't blatantly negligent, you should have some levels of discipline before firing is necessary. Some facilities also have unions which bring more protection against unnecessary fires. I wouldn't say it's "easy" to get fired, but it's definitely possible if you aren't following the rules and practicing safe patient care.

In Baltimore, MD with 8 years experience cheap o $24 and some change. DMV area $30 and some change with 8 years experience just ridiculous when I can work at Chick Fila A for $18 no experience. Travel contracts I accept no less than $1,700/week in the hotter months and $1,500/week in the colder months since that's when contracts are cheaper. Living and rental car I budget at $6,000/13 week contract. O and I do plenty of over time to get my weekly checks over $2,000/week

20 years in SPD. Starting wage just went up from $14.00 to $14.95. I was at $17.04 for the last three years I think. I think I started at $12.00 twenty years ago but I don’t know for sure. Other departments that were around the same pay back then are now way above our pay. The last 7 people we have hired quit for higher paying jobs and we have two travel techs at the moment.

@@bonsaiman75 That's really unfortunate they have not increased the wages for you all. How engaged are the SPD Techs in the union? The unions get paid no matter what, so if you don't MAKE them work for you they won't. You have to be involved and push for what you want/need. I would suggest some of your SPD Techs get on the union leads and even get involved during negotiations.

Hi, im bout to complete level 4 sterilisation certification, generally level 5 is for team leaders or management level. Although in saying that have discovered some of our course content is extremely indept and unnecessary for our level. I'm in private hospital in north Island but our wages are slightly below DHB rates, which is interesting. We also receive other perks , such as morning and afternoon tea, and fully funded health insurance so lucky us. My pay rate won't change once I'm qualified, but I'm happy with where I'm at.

If you do your contracts right, just standard full time with maybe some periodic overtime. But like I said in the video, you may have to endure some crappy places to work as a traveler. Or you could take slightly better contracts and do more overtime. Just depends on how you decide to pursue it. Other thing I said in the video is that money isn’t everything. You can end up pretty miserable chasing such high pay.
