Thanks for the video. I bought a well used Sterling in 1984. It's been put up since 88, I planned on rebuilding it, but never did. thanks to this video I found all the parts, so I'll give it a try. I don't plan on carrying it, just shoot it once in awhile. I'm not a big fan of the .25 cal., but this little gun kept me from being robbed or worse in 86 without even having to shoot one of those little bullets. They changed their mind without even asking what caliber the gun was. Thanks Again.

Just a note: I carried a stainless model as a back up for a Dan Wesson .357 magnum for about 10 years, and never had a single problem with it. I had owned many other makes, but this was the one that I could hit what I was aiming at within a reasonable distance.

Fascinating. Your Sterling .25 ACP functions properly! The Sterling .25 ACP I own has an absurdly high malfunction rate (about 80%). While shooting it, only about one out of six shots work. Failures to extract and failures to eject were common. Frequent light primer strikes made trusting your life to the pistol foolish. If I was forced to defend my life with my Sterling .25 ACP pistol or with my EDC knife, I would choose my knife, rather than gamble on the 10% chance that the handgun functions, it's that bad. I'm glad to see that yours works fine!

The difference in reliability may relate to the quality of the ammo. Centerfire is more carefully made. I get varying effects from .22LR. I can hit better with my Daisy BB rifle. The .22 powder varies. I suppose the loading process is pretty automated. The cheap rounds will come out reliably but not land reliably. Most .22 owners report better function from premium rounds. Get what you pay for. .22 autoloaders hold up better than revolvers, but they will eat whatever fits and keep turning over. Like to see reviews on them.

Mine was inherited from my dad who was never a gun guy so I was surprised he had it. The original mag was a big problem with it. At a gun show I found a new mag, probably a triple k, and that solved the feeding problems. $20 dollars for the mag is probably as much as that model 302 .22 lr pistol is worth but still fun to shoot and it was my dads. It has a dinky front sight so I can reliably put them on a 6" steel plate at 15 yards shooting quickly, good enough for that little bugger. I may shop around for the model 300 in 25 acp just for a nifty little range toy like the 302 is.

I am THOROUGHLY enjoying these mouse gun reviews! .25 ACPs need more love! And as to everyone who asks why it's so weak and why there's so many guns in that chambering, well, .22 Short was a very, very popular self-protection round, but it was borderline useless unless you could hit an internal organ before the bullet fell apart in the body, and could sometimes even be deflected with simply heavy clothing. .25 ACP was quite a bit more powerful then .22 Short, with a larger bullet flying at slightly higher FPS. Now with .22LR out, there's no way to compare the two, as .22LR beats it in every way except bullet diameter. And that's because .25 ACP was meant to compete against .22 Short, NOT .22LR. I still like how manufacturers sell certain pocket pistols in both chamberings, though. .25 ACP for the mouse gun collectors, .22LR for the people who actually want to use it!

***** Of course it is, it also usually feeds far more reliably. 22LR is technically "necked up" which means the bullet is equal or larger to the case size. This means the bullet can easily dislodge from the case and hang up the firearm during feeding.

Sootch I own a number of the Sterling 300's and 302's...been collecting them for over 25 years. I carried one as a LEO (Model 300) as a last ditch weapon. Today, I have lots of spare parts and have built several of these from parts alone. The only problem I've ever had is, when you squeeze the left grip too tight it puts pressure on the trigger bar, making it harder to pull the trigger. Because .25 Auto ammo is expensive, I reload for my Sterlings. It's fun and far cheaper!!!! As a matter of interest, you will find not only those marked as made in Lockport, but Gasport as well.

+J Riley Hi J, First...have you tried different brands of .22LR ammo? If it's not the ammo, other factors would be the firing pin spring has weakened over time and stretching won't help...or the firing pin/ejector is too short . Another factor could be headspace, but I've never seen that problem in either of the models. Keep me posted...I may be able to correct it for you here at my place.

Having watched this video a second time I realized I had forgotten to mention a few things: 1: Along with the reliability factor, the .25 Auto bullet is a true FMJ, the .22LR is not. 2: The bullet is also 10 grains heavier than the standard .22LR which allows for deeper penetration. 3: The Model 300 shown is a later production model because the slide serrations are further apart than the earlier models fine serrations. 4: The firing pin is the ejector which is why some break off after extensive use. I do agree with Sootch, the Sterlings are good guns and worth having!

Enjoy all your videos. Happen to have the same pistol reviewed here. The only difference and it is a profound one is that mine was manufactured in Gasport, NY as opposed to Lockport. They're stamped in exactly the same place. The Gasports were made in much smaller numbers by an independent machinist's shop. By the time the manufacturing was moved to Lockport an individual had purchased SA who was more interested in the bottom line than anything else. Thus shortcuts were implemented to save money, not the least of which were final inspections leading to a consistently inferior product. The one I have is my EDC. I'm a utility bicyclist who doesn't own a car and I simply wanted a 'get off me' gun in case of a road rage incident. Try to find one of the Gasports for a comparison review. They just seem to have more substance and feel slightly heavier. Thank you for all your videos. You, along with many others provide a wealth of information to the gun community at large.

There was a rumor online that a disgruntled employee was purposely sabotaging the guns. They caught him on security camera and fired him. With no final inspection, it could be why some guns work and some don't. The extractor seems to be a weak link with the hole drilled for the extractor holding pin. Shooting hyper velocity 22 ammo will cause the extractor to break over time as the recoil energy exceeds what the gun was designed for. Also the firing pin for the 22. My 302 is stainless and that can be brittle in small parts and did break halfway thru a box of Stingers.

I'd love to get a striker fired 32 ACP, something that is proven and I can trust to carry. I want a 32 ACP pistol that I can throw in my pocket and make quick trips to the store with. In my immediate area crime isn't a big issue, so for short trips I think a 32 ACP would be fine, a well placed 32 ACP FMJ isn't nothing to laugh at. Carrying that makes more sense than strapping on my full sized M&P 9 in it's IWB holster.

Yes you can. Did it on my Sterling 22 LR. I got mine from Fiber Optic Products out of Helper, UT off EBay for a 4-pack of 2 colors about 2 inches long for about $5. Green and yellow seem to be the best for visibility. I got 2mm and 2.5 mm. I found you can cut and mill an ink pen cartridge with a Dremel tool to let light in and protect it. They make smaller diameters. Before that I cut and epoxied an orange plastic rod used to install an ear wax trap for a hearing aid, also made in black if you prefer. There are KZitem videos on how to replace fiber optics in a sight using a nail clipper and a cigarette lighter. On most single action six guns, there is also a rear groove that you can epoxy a rudimentary sight using a fiber optic rod. My old eyes can no longer see the rear sight but I can see the fiber optic. Try different diameters to get the elevation you need.

Inspect the safety to ensure it is a rigid non pressed in design. If this is the same design as the Baby Browning avoid it like the plague. I inherited a Baby Browning and it has fatal, and I mean fatal, flaw. Specifically, the safety is two or three piece pressed in device that can rotate in such a way as to show safe when in fact it is in fire position. I could see no way to fail safe the damned thing other then to hack saw it off all together. In addition, re-assembly is tenuous. In the condition I inherited it it would not function at all due to improper re-assembly. There are other versions that have back strap safeties and may even some with hammers. DO NOT MESS WITH THIS ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN or any of its clones.

I've seen blowback guns without an extractor that works purely on residual gas pressure to extract but they do have an ejector to kick the empty round out. How does a gun with an extractor but no ejector flip the cartridge casing out and away?
@webtoedman
8 жыл бұрын
Suspect that the rim of the cartridge is forced against the left wall of the frame by the extractor and is tipped out by friction, or if it refuses to unhook, by hitting the rear of the frame. I haven't had one apart, but it is a common method.

Can you change the barrel and slide to 22 lr and leave the rest of parts on the gun and switch jet back to 25 act whenever
@SWAMPHUNTER644

If it was possible, you'd still need to get a 22 firing pin part. The recoil spring may be different as well. I assume you'd need a 22 magazine.

The gun probably needs a new magazine release spring. Shouldn't cost much if you can find one.

Seems odd to go from a 380. to a .22L. Even for the times, as in ammo cost, etc. It's got a nice old style spy movie look to it, but seems cheap outside of that...I don't know exactly what it is that makes it look cheap, seeing that the frame seems solid...but something about it screams "cheap and breakable" to me. Maybe it's just my odd bias.

32 ACP can never be underestimated because it's power and penetration can match the 380 ACP
