You join us on Saturday 12th June 2021, as we travel on Locomotive Services Limited's stunning Midland Pullman High Speed Train from Leamington Spa to Carlisle and back on 'the Settle and Carlisle Pullman'.
We arrived at Leamington Spa for an 0845 departure, but due to problems with the lead power car at Bristol, departure came one hour late aboard 1Z14 Bristol Temple Meads to Carlisle. Travelling out via Kenilworth, Coventry and Bedworth to the Trent Valley Line at Nuneaton, we then sped down the West Coast Main Line via Crewe to Farrington Curve Junction (just south of Preston), where we turned off and took the line via Blackburn, Clitheroe and Hellifield to join the Midland Railway Company's famous Settle and Carlisle Railway at Settle Junction. Famous landmarks such as the Ribblehead Viaduct, the Blea Moor signal box and the general stunning scenery of the route were lovely to see in the beautiful sunshine.
We arrived into the border city of Carlisle about 20 minutes down and headed into the city for some lunch and some sightseeing whilst the Midland Pullman set went to Upperby Yard to stable.
Departing on time at 16:36, we then headed back to Leamington Spa as 1Z15 Carlisle to Bristol Temple Meads. This time, we headed south via the West Coast Main Line, over Shap and through the gorgeous Lune Gorge, before a none-stop run through Preston and retracing our outward journey via Crewe and the Trent Valley Line to Leamington Spa.
We travelled in First Class (non-dining), which included complimentary Tea and Coffee, as well as two snack boxes that included a selection of snacks for Breakfast and Dinner.
Cost: £380.00 for the two of us.
Mileage: 460mi 70ch
Journey Time: 7h 38m
Traction: 43046 + 43055
We thoroughly enjoyed the day, and would recommend a trip on the Midland Pullman, find out more here: midlandpullman....
