FOR REAL! They shouldn't even have to be forced; you would think they dig deep to find history like this. It's so much more accessible than ever. before. but what do I know, I also think everyone should learn to drive a manual transmission, drive a wet course, and correct hydroplane fishtail before they can get a license. I feel like more accident happen in California after an hour of rain than the whole day. I'm going to go look that up....

Nothing just happens,it's evolution and an origin involved.Years ago,I had heard about him and his crew, yet I was never in the battle scene personally, except crew battles at parties/jams.Those were in clubs or out in the parks,at the jams, like Haffen Park on Sundays,371 Club, etc.I had some folks over and one was Steve Dee,so he swaps out my mixer, gets on,and we're all standing there, watching this alien work turntables like he invented them.It was like this blur, and we have been in contact since.Another thingis,he learns and masters music software and hardware as if he invented that too,and has been using Reaper since the early days. It's not relevant to talk about what others have done unless we pay homage to the originator,in this case,Steve Dee,whether it's called 'the funk' or juggling.

It's cool but you got to admit. The turnatblism style back then is Miles ahead than it is today. I'm just talking turntable manipulation aspect. It looks almost like a martial art. You just don't get that same type of energy was ching deejays today. The technology today makes the mixing sound cleaner and more polished. But I'd rather watch stuff like this.

MQL Mohale, very true, what im about to say, i hope people can understand where im coming from, im 16, i found out about turntablism and battle DJing 2 yrs ago, im fascinated with the artform, and i like the idea of pulling out 2 turntables and a mixer and seeing whos routine is better. Now with that being said continuing with what MQL Mohale said, the worst thing about watching these DMC videos is seeing everyone completely trash this generations DJs, and technology. Not only do i see these comments on turntablism videos, but also 70s 80s and 90s music, movies and everything. Seeing all this hate is disappointing and demotivating considering the generations after the boomers and gen x, didnt have a choice and were born way later after the ‘fun’ of the last generations have past. Every, single, time, i hear someone say “man you dont hear music like this anymore” or “you’ll never see ANYTHING like this ever again” it makes me feel ashamed of the generation im in and makes me feel like i missed out on, everything :/

I can tell you that Steve did not get that whodini routine from Lightening Rich. The ironic part is that Rich and Steve met each other twice in 2 different dj battles. They met for the first time in 1988 at the New York DMC northeastern competition where Rich took first place and Steve came in 2nd place and Dj Scratch came in third place. They would meet again 2 years at the 1990 NEW MUSIC SEMINAR MC/DJ BATTLE FOR WORLD SUPREMACY.Steve ended up winning the whole battle and took home the very last SEMINAR Gold dj belt.

Look at kentaro he nailed 2002 but is sloppy in the rest of his performances and that dude is incredibly giffted yet he probably got lucky that night with regards to mistakes and being sloppy in his routine and then the community will go judge other turntablists who are good but not giffted like kentaro or Craze or MMM or qbert or Klever etc, all these dudes destroy it on DVS so its not the technology its just comparing people who are talented vs those that are gifted there is a difference between the two so why compare as its all just different levels.

@AYU the logical next step is to tone it down a bit, make it more musical, MAKE IT CLUB COMPATIABLE!! In other words make trap, dubstep, dnb, or house or whatever sits best with you and then instead of battling you head to rave or festivals and using turntablist skills and a few other things like a loop recorder you play/make live tracks of said genre turntablist style and even btb with another dj doing the same and you just mix into each other tracks, it's time to take the glory back and the only way is to kick them fake ass mother mother fuckers out of the club

I'm 100% vinyl since back in the day, still got the SL's set up ...been to 4 dmc mixing finals, .but. I just dont get turntablism. OK, a lot of skill involved, but the sound! Most of the time just a jumbled mess. A lot of the time it's all about speed over musicality. Once you've heard 4 or 5 sets back to back it all sounds the same. Much prefer mixing, blending scratching etc. Just my opinion.
