You're probably right, but that poor soul couldn't be responsible for the same oversight Jobs had! Not foreseeing that over 500 connected devices to one wifi network might be a problem!
@sireuchre
4 жыл бұрын
@@Simple_Jackass It wasn't over 500 devices connected to one network, it was over 500 'base stations', as in hotspots or access points, showing up. People were providing their own wifi connectivity via mobile hotspots and such, and it was creating wifi congestion on the band. At that time, basically everything was running on the 2.4ghz band, and there's only 14 channels in that band, and they overlap. Radio transceivers (which wifi is a radio device) can only handle so much crosstalk at a time, so the effective throughput drops to nil. In the new Apple owned auditorium for their press events, I'm going to bet they provide an extremely robust wifi service, which would help avoid this issue. At the time of the event shown here, they had to rely on someone else's infrastructure.

Even when the product isn't working, Apple somehow still makes it look good.

Many of the people covering the event described the problem as interference. But it happened because multiple APs were operating on same channel in same area, you run into situation where high data rate sent to and from one AP cannot be successfully demodulated by the stations associated to different AP. When high data rate frames are received and demodulated unsuccessfully, that is seen as corrupted data. In wireless we call it Near/Far problem. Once data is seen corrupted the station will wait for sometime (EIFS) before transmitting. If they would have set up the wireless network so that one AP operates on each channel in any given area, this issue wouldn't have happened.
