Wow... Apple really used to talk directly to the techheads... and he just motors through those features.

There was nothing close to the TiBook design wise back then! I got my 800 MHz version in autumn 2002, good times 🥰

OS X was such a huge deal, I don't think many people understand how refreshing and influential this was/is. Windows had remained largely unchanged for 6 years which was ancient history for an OS at the time. The design of Aqua still looks good today. Aqua was debuted in Macworld 2000 and right after Microsoft said they shelved "Neptune" and "Odyssey" and started development on "Whistler" which would become Windows XP.

Watching this again makes me miss the excitement we felt when these new OS functionalities were announced. At the time every single new feature seemed magical. "Apple thinks of everything!." Computer OS's now feel like nothing changes anymore --- rarely is there a new 'wow' feature announced.

@@kelsormjaquan I highly doubt that you actually used the OS you talk about. Were you even born at that time? Pure hate also has nothing to do with intelligence 👍

I miss Aqua so much, the flat design looks like something ripped straight out of the 80s. We need Steve back so bad.

I still use Snow Leopard & Mountain Lion on my macs. Aqua is the best looking user interface we ever had. Gorgeous reflective dock & icons. Not a single Linux distro or dock has reflectivity.

@@CyrilCommandofr I've been doing my best to replicate that in KDE and GNOME but nowhere close. There is a good theme and mod for GNOME that makes it nearly identical to MacOS but only the modern flat one. No aqua/skeuomorph. I've been doing my best to request for this but it is not enough.

That titanium those PoweBooks were made of… It was coated in silver paint that scratched really easily. These PowerBooks looked great when new. But not too good once well used.

Making my comment in April 2024, I cannot believe how many times I've had to tell and show people, "no, the iPhone 15 wasn't the first time Apple used titanium as a main metal in their products." I never owned one, but apparently they had a lot of issues with this? Even just a simple KZitem search shows people explaining long term wear and tear damages the material.

Eh, I've had 6 TiBooks over the years. Generally speaking, there were really only 2 gripes about them that I found hold any real water. First was hinges breaking. The hinge that ran into the display bezel was pretty weak on the early VGA models. If you open the lid from one side, over time that strain could break it. Opening the lid from the center basically solves that, and Apple did reinforce the hinges in the later DVI models. Paint failure would be the other. Again, this seemed to be worse on the first couple generations, but taking care of the machine wasn't that difficult.

The sound keeps cutting out. Understandable when there’s music but it happens when they are talking too. You can extract speech and strip out the music with something like iZoptope RX. Lots of other tools available now that will do it.
