I just love the driving scene that's way beyond what the movies were back when Bullitt was produced. I was living in the Denver area at the time of his death. I was working on my '67 Mustang Coupe, installing a Boss 302 mated w/ an M22 top-loader, when the news report came over the FM radio. Almost made me cry, 'cause I was building that Mustang in homage to his Bullet version, right down to the same color. I know his had a 428, but I figured the Boss 302 made up for some of C.I. difference. Very fun car that would pull 12 second quarters all day long. The M22 w/ the Hurst shifter was so much quicker than the original T-10 Ford mated the Boss to.

Warmest Greetings from Bangkok, Thailand. Hello Jerry, I trust your well, interesting account of Steve Mc. Queen's life, I'm originally from Chelmsford, Essex. England & remember watching many Steve Mc. Queen movies, back in the late 60's early 70's, back home. Those were the days when most actors actually did most of there own stunts, Steve was a fabulous actor & was well respected in England. Thanks so much for posting, god bless all those fabulous actors in the US, during the golden years, gone but not forgotten. All the very best. Congrats my friend.

Just shortly before his first trip to Mexico, He and his wife stopped in at the Royal Oaks Museum Antiques in Crystal Lake Ill. He wanted the owner to open the museum on a day after hours. The owner was told by his kids, that Steve McQueen wanted to see some antiques. The owner, Always wearing a Stetson and matching boots with the pants cuffs tucked in, not being interested in current Hollywood, said who the h--- is Steve McQueen? After the kids explained and the private tour had been completed, Steve bought some toys, he, his wife, his stuntman and the owner sat and talked for another hour or so about the coming trip to Mexico. The owner proudly told everyone from that day forward, that he knew Steve McQueen. The owner of the museum, was my father.

On 09/18/2019 as a Lyft driver I had the pleasure of meeting a nice, handsome fella. He asked if he could ride on the front seat, said he was on his way to pick up his dog pet at a veterinarian clinic in Santa Monica Ca. I couldn't help noticing familiar face features so I asked if he was an actor, yes! he replied. Steven McQueen was his name, the grandson of the GREAT Steve McQueen!!! He produced an Id card. He didn't have to, the resemblance is amazing. Later at home I told my family, then I Google him and sure enough that was the same nice handsome fella I met earlier!! Just felt like sharing this fine encounter I had. Thanks

Why Bruce & Steve used to spar together for fun. Why one of BL''s Jeet kune do instructors Dan Inosanto has spoken in interviews about their unique friendship, & great mutual admiration. And finally, why Steve was a pallbearer at Bruce's funeral. They were definitely friends, & you're definition of loose-lipped moron...

It really hit me hard because as a kid I thought he was unstoppable but it started me in Martial Arts the next year which was a positive thing in my young life but thank goodness Chuck Norris was up and coming by 78 because they tried replacing Bruce with fake Bruce's which started to soure the US towards martial Arts movies Man what a bad time for martial arts movies. I knew Steve, briefly, as he lived in Santa Paula, Ca and hung out with a friend, Von Dutch, at my fathers gas station on the other side of town. What no one says about Steve was that he was ENORMOUSLY GENEROUS $$$ with his money, especially charities for disadvantaged children. He gets no credit for it because he gave his money away very quietly, not like celebrities now days who have their agent take a picture of them handing a check to a crippled veteran. FYI, the asbestos causing his mesothelioma was likely caused by a brief but intense exposure he received to asbestos while in the Marine Corp on a work duty gutting the inside of an old WWII Liberty Ship. To finish a thought, I do not know for a fact that he left that $200,000 to Boys Camp, but from what I know he was certainly capable of gifting it to them, AND having also given away a whole lot more over the course of his life, all very quietly of course. That was Steve for you, the "King of (quite) Cool".

Yeah...and the fact that he was first choice for "Breakfast At Tiffany's;" and, first choice for "Quigley Down Under:" and, could have been "Dirty Harry" and "The Sundance Kid;" and, he proposed the idea for the 1992 movie "The Bodyguard;" and, he was friends with and studied under Bruce Lee; and, was to play "John Rambo" in "First Blood;" and, turned down multi-million dollar offers for "Apocalypse Now" and "A Bridge Too Far;" and, was mentioned in an REM song; and, was the first of "The Magnificent Seven" to pass away; and, and, and!?!? Yes...make the video last ten days!?!? (Not a bad idea!)! Steve McQueen's life was so extensive, complicated, and, turbulent, that his biographers, his friends, and, even his wives don't really know everything about him...only he did. Interesting bio Jerry - but not sure why you omitted two of McQueen's most acclaimed and seminal films, 'Bullit' and the 'Thomas Crown Affair' which were both made in 1968. The latter is especially noteworthy as McQueen deliberately took the part of the urbane, smart-as-a-whip Ivy-Leaguer as a way of down-playing his own lack of erudition and class. (apparently whilst filming the movie McQueen struggled at times to 'relate' to the character as it was so alien to his own life). You also fail to mention that he had his own film production company (Solar) for which he made many of his major films. As an interesting footnote - McQueen idolized Paul Newman and if you compare their careers you will notice parallels between their choice of films - McQueen often made similar films after Newman did. (eg making 'Le Mans' after Newman's motor-racing film 'Winning'). Whilst McQueen idolized Newman - James Garner idolized McQueen and tried his utmost to appear in the same films! (eg; The Great Escape). Finally, you are correct about McQueen's relationship with Neile Adams as he never truly stopped loving her despite his numerous infidelities. (it is said that McQueen slept with all but two of his leading ladies!) This is also confirmed by his choices of future wives as both Ali McGraw and Barbara Minty bear more than a passing resemblance to Ms Adams.

If Jerry Skinner did a thorough research, he deliberately omitted the most important period of McQueen’s life. Pity! Steve committed his life to Christ prior to his diagnosis and finally found peace and received healing of the gross neglect and lack of love throughout his childhood. He looked forward to life after death. Steve said: “My only regret in life is that I was not able to tell people about what Christ did for me.” and so Greg Laurie, pastor and long-time fan wrote a book in his honour, “Steve McQueen. The Salvation of an American Icon”. He also made a documentary film about his conversion

I remember meeting Steve McQueen back in 1977 when I was working as a life guard at the Beverly Wishire Hotel and he was actually living there at the hotel after his divorce. He loved his motorcycle and would bring it up to his room on the service elevator and not leave it parked down in the garage. Interesting good dude, it was an honor meeting him. Sad he passed so young..

Bullet was a fine movie as well. Seemed most of his family members died at a young age. R.I.P. Steve McQueen, you are home now.
The clip never mentioned one of his iconic movies "Bullit". Why? The car chase scene was copied my times over in all future "car chase movies!!

Simply amazing. I love Steve McQueen, the essence of cool. And Steve was the real deal. Bruce Lee said about his training and working out with Steve. " That Steve McQueen, we really has it man. He has it in his blood the way he moves." I loved everything Steve did I movies and television. When he was in a film, he always stole it. Magnificent Seven is a great example. Papillion was and is marvelous. RIP cool one.

Jerry can I ask your age. Anyone that will give a year as "19 and 56" is an old old way to give a date. I meet Steve when he still had ties to St Louis.

peter clifton yeah so tragic Steve adored her. She grew into one beautiful woman too, which continues on her daughter(Steve's granddaughter!) who is GORGEOUS. Terry was in fact the ONLY woman(outside her mother Neille) Steve respected & would really listen to....
