Well, it is November, months after hoping Steve Perry would have released his new album, which I have waited years for. Looks like I will have to wait longer, but will gladly do so. Hearing Steve sing again will always be worth the wait. Listening to him sing is a magical experience that I have never found with any other singer. So much soul, heart, emotion, coming from him in every word of a song, and such great lyrics.

Steve went in the studio in March. It is said that it takes about a year , from start to finish, to release an album...once you get in the studio.

I have been thinking about what he said today and I noticed his careful choice of words: "I wanna get it done by the early part of this coming year." So pay very careful attention...he DIDN'T say to have it RELEASED in 2016 but have it done by then. That means written (or even re-written), recorded, and mastered. The album was finished in 2016 but ready to be released in 2017. And that means that STEVE himself said in at least 3 interviews in April of 2017 that it SHOULD be released this year...BUT...there seems to be a delay...of some sort. He was spotted in NYC in July of this year (2017) possibly coming back or going to Sony. It may be that contract negotiations fell through (according to his lawyer he was in heavy contract negotiations...but that's very, very touch and go). So it might be 2018 folks. 😢 Which kind of makes sense...FTLOSM took 3 years to write, record and master. THEN his band finally rehearsed for his FTLOSM tour. So...I get it. But he didn't want to talk about it so much especially since it wasn't finished and it was his friend's day to celebrate. So let's hope for 2018.

Davida Williams -- Supposedly, the delay was due to the fact that possible record labels (Sony?) wanted contractual assurances that, along w/ this new album, he would be open to recording/releasing more material. Apparently, Steve didn't want to be "locked in" to record more stuff at the brink of 69 years old. I say, if that's the crossroads, give him an optional clause for an EP and a live album, and call the two the "second album" (I seem to recall that that was a way record labels could square things contractually in the '70s and '80s). Hey, he could give us a Holiday EP and a live concert of his new/old material. Problem solved. On the heels of Steve Walsh's very interesting, powerful solo LP, Steve Perry's third solo album, and first in the 21st Century, would be a welcome sight + sound...I hear the album is a distillation of what he's been up to since the late 1970s up to today. Would We want anything else? Ironically, I got a special, Limited Edition 21st Century HD version of Journey's last (double) LP/CD featuring Steve, Trial By Fire (1996), coming as a very late/exchanged Xmas gift later this week. It will be my first time listening to it in its entirety...it will be an exciting, unique musical experience. Talk about a magnificent "primer" for Steve's upcoming solo work?! Good things come...

AnthonyKZitemFan always great to see your replies! A lot for the mind as always and that is welcome. By "distillation from late 70s till now" were you talking about Steve PERRY or Walsh? Is that in reference to unreleased material of Steve Perry. His new solo is supposed to be new material he recorded in 2015. Whoa a double TBF CD?!? I've got the regular one. I want that too!!! I'm gonna look that up and see if I can get a hold of one. And yes...good things come to those that wait! 👍😄

Davida Williams -- I've got the reissue of the 2013 Japanese mini-LP Cardboard Sleeve Blu-spec CD2 (from the same folks who make Blu-ray DVDs) coming to me, which has 16 tracks (bonus Japan-exclusive track included), basically the double vinyl LP on one CD amounting to over 74 minutes of music. No, I'm talking about Steve Perry's upcoming album: I heard, over the last year, that "a few" of the anointed have heard the album, and have said that the material is, though very much new, it fits right in w/ his Journey and solo work from the '70s up to today...supposedly, there are some very good/great AOR tracks featured on the work. Years ago, he'd said he had collaborated w/ a very "interesting" person, who was unexpected...for some reason, the way he said it at the time, I've always wondered if Joe Perry was that person. I also suspect (wishfully?) that there's a possibility that Steve Smith might be featured on that record, considering how much he was against Journey continuing after 1997 w/out Steve Perry, until 2015. My guess is, the musical collaborations will be interesting. Actually, Steve Walsh's album IS sonically a distillation of '70s-21st Century Kansas and SW solo work. Hopefully, Perry's will be in a similar manner, since he STILL has would-be gems sitting somewhere in his vaults/and or demo tapes. What's funny is: There seems to currently be 2 camps in 2018: the "It Ain't Gonna Happens" and the "See, I Told You Sos" regarding SP's album release. It's gonna be fun and interesting to hear/see what the buzz is going to be when it (finally) happens. And, I wouldn't be surprised (at all) if Journey's and Steve Perry's material end up being featured on the Ready Player One motion picture soundtrack in Spring 2018, since the film is a love letter to The 1980s.

AnthonyKZitemFan as always your comments blow me away. I got the 16 tracks too with the picture booklet. Is the bonus track (spoiler alert) BABY I'M A LEAVIN' YOU? LOVE that one! Witty as all get out!!! John 5 is on Steve's new solo album. I believe he is the guitarist for the Zombies. I think THAT is the "interesting" person he has collaborated with. I wonder WHO produced or co-produced Steve's album? It would be off the charts if it Niles Rogers (wishful thinking) or Babyface (again REALLY wishful thinking). Who do you think? As for as the two camps, it is actually 3 camps: Ain't never gonna happen, I'll believe when I see it and I told you so. I am of the 3rd camp...for the most part. Wow, to hear Steve's/Journey's music in the theaters again would be AMAZING!
