Bravo! The man is a true musician-in his recent interviews he listens to Diana Krall, the jazz singer, produced a couple Guff tracks, sang with Bon Jovi, and David Pack, and Johnny Van Zandt-he studied music from a young age, sang classical music in a boys choir, was in the high school band-he can't be pigeonholed into one category-the definition of a real musician! I'll be happy just to hear him interpret whatever his heart is leading him to express these days-blues,jazz, show tunes, whatever!

What happened to this band that Steve Perry no longer is involved with?? First he's in Journey, then he goes solo, and right about the time Journey was seemingly getting back together then, with the 1996 release of When you love a woman, to the point of being in no band , period?? It's all very confusing. It's like after he left Journey, he was searching for something that was just not in his grasp for some unknown reason. Then, he JUST STOPPED!!! I hope and pray that he finds what he's serching for. I Love the fact that I grew up in the 70s, & 80s and graduated high scool in the c/o 1984, Journey was at the top of their game. I'm so very happy that I was able to grow up in that time with their awesome music. Here it is today, Sept. 28th, 2020, I'm 54 year's old and I am still listening to that awesome music!!! Thank you, Journey for making life bareable with your music. ♊❤💋🤟

Steve Perry still can sing and no one can every replaced his voice in Journey. He is the real voice that made Journey to where they are now. We can't compare him to others coz he has the that voice that others can't hardly hit the note.

Having never, ever seen him or Journey live, I can only imagine! Of course I knew the big hits from his solo days like Oh Sherrie and Foolish Heart; however, today in 2022, I have a whole knew perspective and appreciation for his gifted vocals; talented musicianship; savvy business techniques; and for being an all-around awesome writer and producer. His vocals on 'Can't Let You Go' with Jeff Golub are simply off the charts awesome! #StevePerry #FTLOSP

Yeah they've always said they'd take him bak if he wanted to-he begged them not to do Journey with another singer-now imagine how he feelsw having yet a different singer re record the songs he made hits. I like the singers after SP, but I hate when people don't acknowledge that SP was the one who made Journey famous. They needed him.

Put Pineda, Augeri and Perry together. Pineda & Augeri will never hit the high pitch that Perry can do and still will do. Most of the new journey records are studio arrangement and produced. Let these 3 sing live and you will find who has the best voice..and that's Perry.

@TexasRokker In defense of Perry, he released new music in a very difficult year. 1994 was the year of gangsta rap and grunge. MTV was abandoning his kind of rock and roll. I didn't see Sony promoting this album. Everyone and their Mother knew Pearl Jam released Vs. the year before. I have met Journey fans that own Trial By Fire and still did not know about Strange Medicine. So it's no surprise he could not sell out a house. Today, the nostalgia of Journey would yield a successful tour.

Uhm.... Now, I will admit that his voice isn't the same-but look at Journeys history. How is it that almost every singer, SP and after, has had vocal problems? Its my opinion that Neal can't understand that the vocal instrument needs rest.singing those ranges and for that long should have some damage n the voice, but he still sounds wonderful.

@TexasRokker I wouldn't say he's nothing without them... I thoroughly enjoyed Strange Medicine and Street Talk. Is it the same the he could accomplish with Schon and Cain? Absolutely not. When Journey are on the same page, they are money in the bank. But Steve did go Gold, getting a #1 airplay song for "You Better Wait", where Neal Schon and Hardline couldn't even scratch the top 200. It wasn't that big of a failure.

Reading these comments in 2022 and some of them are just downright ignorant. FTLOSM is excellent, one of my faves. Steve hasn't lost anything! He left Journey because he needed to do what was best for him, for his life and his health and I so respect him for doing so. His mom was dying and he was still expected to record with Journey. No way would I have been ok with that, ever. Yes, of course his voice has changed, he's 73 for goodness sake! But his new album Traces is just beautiful. If you're looking for the Journey sound, Traces is very different. Steve has put his heart out there, he's opened it and sang it on Traces... the pain, the loss, the sorrow the joy, all of it and in a way only he can, the way we so know that reaches in and touches your soul. That's Steve Perry. Since he left Journey they've only ever tried to find someone that sounds like him because Neal knows, Steve is the sound of Journey. Yes Neal can shred but without Steve Journey is just a cover band. Arnel can sing, he's a good guy, but no one will ever replace Steve Perry.

@TexasRokker Rolling Stone told me that joke in 1994, and the single certainly didn't sell, but it did get strong airplay. As for his GH+5, this was an album that Sony didn't even promote. Agree 100% with you in that he will probably not return. John Kalodner said himself that if Perry wants to sing, he'd sing. Perry is not doing anything. But Kalodner said every label would love to sign him. 1994 was not his place, but with all the Journey nostalgia happening, he has a better chance today

@missbitch67 To expand on Lincoln Brewster, he moved on to become one of the biggest Christian Contemporary Music artists on the planet. High recommend him. Paul Taylor--who used to be in Winger--declined to reunite with Winger, and does sessions, as does Moyes Lucas. Todd Jensen--who was in Neal Schon's metal band Hardline, right before this album was made--is apparently a school teacher. But the lead singer of Hardline started that rumor, and he talks a lot of shit.

@michaelisajerk Oh, and I loved The Division Bell. But EMI were promoting the living heck out of it when it was released. I remember MTV premiering and airing the video for "Take it Back". EMI made a big deal out of it, and it paid off. Sony, however, were more concerned about Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains--not that I disagreed with that; They made them money, too. But Perry could have made more if Sony at least tried to support the record.

Trail by Fire was freaking fantastic. Arnel Pinedea (I mangled his last name) has had a few troubles this past tour as well. I'm wondering why Jeff Scott Soto wouldn't continue with them? The reason SP wouldn't tour was because of his hip and his age. But I'm really wondering why you are so set in convincing people on Perrys side that they are wrong, and that his voice isn't good anymore? If seeing the man live didn't change their opinion you certainly won't.Neal knows no other life

"THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HIS HIP!! Who was his surgeon? Where did he have the surgery? NO ONE KNOWS!" Usually medical procedures are protected by doctor-patient confidentiallity. Perhaps you're willing to share where you have your rectal exams done, but others tend to consider that private. Do you search high and low for forums about Perry so you can cut down and act like you know him personally? If so, that's kind of sad.

" Perry was/is too proud to admit that they needed to be lowered", "He just didn't want Jon to hear him.", "No hip problem, it wasn't anger. He faked the anger as YET another excuse not to return.
