Agreed. And while I like Sal Licota, his anger schtick would work much much better in the daytime. So replace Moose and Maggie with Sal and CMac, and then WFAN needs to find a younger Steve Somers, a guy who loves NYC sports, while also not taking it so seriously.

@@Metsfan1986 Sort of true, except lately Steve has occupied the evening slot, where he's being replaced by Keith MacPherson, who sounds like a college radio sports host. The latter has only ever recorded podcasts, zero radio host experience... WFAN dreaming it can attract teenagers to terrestrial radio.

@@hd-xc2lz You're right. Steve has been doing the slot that Keith is going to take over. I'm definitely willing to give Keith a chance. The station just doesn't appeal to me much anymore. So I haven't been listening much in the past year or so. Definitely taking a turn for the worst.

First time i called WFAN it was to Steve's show at 3AM to talk about the Mets when i was about 13 years old. He was so kind and generous to a nervous little kid and let me talk about the Mets for like 2 or 3 minutes. An absolute treasure and legend.

Like Steve Somers, the late, great Bill Mazer was also very polite to young callers to his sports shows on the radio. Mike Francesca and a very young John Sterling could have acted with a lot more patience and civility to their young callers like Steve Somers and Bill Mazer.

Me here and you there! What is it! The lightening Rod! Between me you and the lamppost! I use these phrases in my everyday vocabulary. Steve is one of a kind. I will miss the only guy on the radio that refers to the Mets as the Metropolitans.

I used to work overnight and be glued to the radio listening to him for years. Well, Steve and Art Bell too. Man, we're losing a great one, hopefully he still pops up here and there. It would be amazing' if one day he showed up to the booth with Gary, Keith and Ron for a few innings. The end of an era for sure. Sux, man.

When I moved to NYC over 25 years ago I remember hearing him on the FAN and to my great surprise realizing that this was the same guy that I watched doing the local TV sports in Sacramento CA back when I was in high school!! He had crazy perm hair back then. What a run he's had!

WOW!! Thank you Steve for the many years!!! In my younger years I would dial into the WFAN during the overnight just to listen to you before I fell alseep. Some folks would leave the TV on to fall alseep but I left the FAN on. Just to listen to Steve's comedic take on the Mets, Giants and the Knicks during the 90s. Thank you Schmoozer!!!!

It feels like a section of our lives has come to a close. My best memory is being away at college, when wfan could barely be heard, only at night, deep into upstate New York. After the Mets won game 3 in 2000 there was no way I could sleep. It felt like we had a chance when I listened to Steve.

As a freshman in college back in '87 I listened to Steve schmooze on the nightshift, every night. I feel like an uncle has retired and now I can't get to hear him talk about all things sports, life and just being a fan. Steve will truly be missed. By the way, it wasn't until last year that I recognized Eddie (from Boomer and Gio) as the "Eddie on the other side of the glass"...just WOW! So long Steve!

I loved listening to Somers. The FAN is officially dead in my mind as Steve was the last of the originals at the station. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the FAN beginning back in 1993 when I began my corporate life as a daily automobile commuter. Imus in the am, Mike & the dawg midday, and usually somers on those late, late night drives. Change is constant and life moves on but I’d love a few hours to go back and listen to that original like up one more time.
