🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 *😬 Steven Seagal's disastrous SNL hosting experience,* - Steven Seagal's 1991 SNL hosting gig is widely regarded as one of the worst in the show's history. - Seagal's refusal to participate in sketches that poked fun at him and his insistence on unfunny ideas contributed to the episode's failure. - Despite his attempts to control the content, Seagal's awkward delivery and lack of comedic timing resulted in a cringeworthy performance. 03:22 *🎭 Analysis of specific sketches and segments,* - Seagal's uncomfortable monologue, featuring a guitar performance and awkward banter, received little to no laughter from the audience. - Sketches like "Nico in Brooklyn" and "Dark Side with Nat X" fell flat due to Seagal's inability to deliver comedic lines effectively. - The episode's culmination with the "Greenpeace Photographer" sketch, written by Seagal himself, was marred by poor delivery and lack of humor, leading to its status as one of SNL's worst episodes. 08:06 *🤔 Behind-the-scenes revelations and reactions,* - Seagal's unfamiliarity with SNL cast members and his repeated claims of not knowing their work added to the awkwardness of the situation. - Despite Seagal's insistence on certain sketches and ideas, the episode was ultimately a failure, leading to its infamy and subsequent avoidance by viewers. - Viewers and critics alike agree that Seagal's SNL episode stands as a prime example of a celebrity host failing to connect with the show's comedic style and energy. I’m not a fan of SNL. Maybe I don’t understand American humour. Some of it is genius (Community, The Simpsons, Family Guy, 30 Rock, Arrested Development) but a ton of it is garbage (SNL, Friends, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, etc.). Comedy is subjective. That being said, my best guess is that they had Seagal on as a straight guy. The problem is he has neither a sense of humour nor any acting talent and a massive ego. There have been episodes of SNL where non-comedy actors are willing to poke fun at themselves despite not being inherently amusing but at least they were good sports. Basically, Seagal was a bad sport, no sense of humour but considered himself to be hilarious and a great actor. Thank god he didn’t do a Traub and believe his friends into thinking he was funny and do stand up…although Seagal claims that he did do stand up…he didn’t. Thankfully.

I've seen that Farley and seagal clip so many times- but I thought it was more interesting not because seagal sucked, but because Chris really seemed like he didn't even want to try in the skit. Like a clear "yeah that's not funny, I'm not gonna play off you or make this bit work". And now I think I finally might know why. That face push in the police skit was so aggressive, and Chris was getting pretty damn recognizable by that point too... so I think the disrespect he felt from seagal might have made him just go "you treat me bad, I'll fight back". Like the rest of SNL just tried to grin and bear it, but Chris was not having it. And that's awesome if it's why it went down like that.

Steven Seagal is pretty talented actually. At least half the US probably knew he was BS by this time, but when I was a kid in the 90s, I thought his movies were cool and he somehow lied his way to stardom and cemented his undeserved legacy and fame. He's still full of it to this day but he's switched up to like a jazzy African American accent for some reason. My family didn't watch nearly as much of his movies as, say, Arnold or Van Damme. I just remember a scene where he slits a guys throat with a credit card and he breaks a guys arm backwards at the elbow. His newest movies are hilariously awful. There's a sniper movie where he sits his fat ass in a seat like the whole movie.

In the whimsical land of Far Far Away, Shrek and Donkey discovered a connection that transcended friendship. Amidst their adventures, a deeper bond formed, defying societal norms. Their unconventional love story unfolded quietly, a tale of acceptance and understanding. Far from the conventional fairy tales, Shrek and Donkey navigated their feelings in a world that had yet to grasp the diversity of love. In the end, it wasn't the castle or the dragon that defined their happiness, but the genuine connection they found in each other, proving that love knows no boundaries, even in a swampy fairy tale realm.

I can’t believe they didn’t do a sketch of Steven doing some kind of self defense or tai chi for elderly men and women, and just brutally hip tossing and arm locks and shit on old people lol. Like he’s this super nice character trying to help this old people but he’s just practicing all his moves on them.

That would have been a funny way to do it but it would have still required Seagal to poke some fun at himself (for his moves). Sadly, it would be another 17 years before he'd actually do some funny stuff tongue-in-cheek with his character in The Onion Movie.

Does anyone notice Seagal seems constantly obsessed with bullying people? Almost every skit he did had him hitting, pushing, or accosting the SNL cast.

While tickets are free to SNL I'm pretty sure a lottery is held and lucky ones win them. So imagine being this your lucky night when you are going to SNL with some of the funniest cast members to ever do the show and you get the Steven Seagal episode.
