Stevenson Creek Falls is one of the largest and most significant waterfalls in California, with a total drop of approximately 1,280 feet. Lidar data shows there to be at least nine distinct tiers to the falls, with the largest drop falling approximately 475 feet.
Stevenson Creek has been regulated by the dam impounding Shaver Lake, and as a result does not flow with consistency or its natural vigor. Before the stream was diverted, the falls were without question one of the top 5 in California - and still achieve that mark when the dam is releasing excess volume due to snow melt. During the summer months the falls are effectively dry due to the diversion.
