Back in 2000 I got a call from my mom and she was crying. I'm trying to figure out what's happened and as it turns out she'd been watching Austin City Limits. They had this guitarist on there and she was Loving him and when the break comes up she finds out she's watching the 10th year anniversary showing of this show for his death. She's like, you ever hear of Stevie Ray Vaughan? Yes Mom I have. Then why the hell didn't you tell me about him when he was still alive?!? Sorry Mom? He's still of favorite of my now 84 year old mom and myself. I can never get enough of his music and yes it does come from his soul. A lot of it comes from the old guitar he's playing. Look into the history of it, very cool story. One of my favorite songs by him is one he wrote for a friend that had passed. Look up, Stevie Ray Vaughan - Life Without You - 9/21/1985 - Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ. Promise you will not be sorry you watched it. But then with Stevie you can never go wrong. Man was brilliant.

I was kinda numb right after hearing the news of Stevie’s passing. A couple of days went by and my mom called and left a message on my machine and said how sorry she was to hear about him - I know she didn’t really listen to him and I had no idea she knew how much Stevie and his music meant to me - I must have taken a record over to her house to hear it on her big stereo but I would have avoided her being there so I could turn it up! Anyway - I was super impressed that my mother remembered him enough to give a consolation call back when I didn’t have time to talk much. ❤

It was an outdoor concert , when the sun was setting he came center stage put his head down and played "Little wing " soft beautiful song and the most surreal moment of my life :) A great song also from him is a little diddy called " life by the drop " just pure .

Another song you'd love especially for SRV's bluesy vocal chops is his "Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up On Love." And don't miss his aggressive, mean-business "Leave My Girl Alone." That one is like somebody poked a beehive, and SRV's guitar notes and his vocal lines come out in angry swarms!

You'd get a kick, too, out of the official music video for "Cold Shot" that SRV and the guys in Double Trouble concocted. It displays the lengths of Stevie's guitar obsession tongue-in-cheek to the point of his connection with the guitar and his music being his life's blood... and it is hilarious! All put to the excellent studio track. That said, for FIRST listens to any of SRV... always go live. And remember, he never plays a song the same way twice. Endless versions available to experience from different venues will show how he is in the moment. The passion of his soul can't help but improvise in expressing itself. It frees SRV's fingers and voice in ways that are utterly stunning.

Unfortunaly, some of SRV best songs are songs with no words like Voodoo Chil and Riveria Paradise. Keys by Reese Wynans (now with Joe Bonamassa) who joined Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble back in 1985. He was already a musical veteran, having worked with the likes of Duane Allman and Dickie Betts of The Allman Brothers Band, Boz Scaggs, Jerry Jeff Walker, Carole King, Joe Ely, Delbert McClinton and others. I still would like you to react to "Life Without You" from 9/21/1985 - Capitol Theatre.

It's the package. Not just the voice. The outfit, the features, that hardened face, the wisdom, the years (and the miles), the experiences, the failures and the successes, the mellowing out of the hard edges, the hard edges that could not be mellowed out, the inventory of songs and music. As my wife would say, "That tall drink of water" over there. Even the sweat and the expression. And those veined hands and fingers as they dance across the guitar. He will be missed, but he left so much for us.

Thanks for bringing us another gem. The organ is a great addition to a band that's as tight as--you fill in the blank. Notice how he's worn the finish off his guitar? One other thing, it's really difficult to master singing and playing at the same time.

You hear people talk about how special he was. In one documentary that I watched a friend of his said that he had a kind of aura around him. His drummer, Chris Layton told a story about SRV and electricity. He said that on numerous occasions, even after someone had checked the microphone, stepping up to it using SRV‘s guitar, touching it and making sure everything was ready. Nothing happened. However, when Stevie walked up to the microphone, he would very often get shocked. Layton even said that you could see a visible arc of electricity that would hit him and knock him back. The solution that they came up with to the problem was to use black foam, like you see on bicycle handlebars, to insulate the microphone stand. In the concert Live at the El Macombo you can see the black foam on the microphone stand. There is also another concert video that you see it in, but I can’t remember which one it is. Yes, he was definitely something very special!
