This album was not underrated - it was always accepted as an integral of his most fertile "genius" period - every song on it was, and is great - over 30 years after it was recorded - as timeless as the Beatles - as Gershwin - as Ellington - as Dylan - absolute perfection. Stevie Wonder is a gift to the human race from the heavens!!!!!

i found some old review of this album somewhere and the critics were saying things like "even though its a good album, its not a strong follow-up to The Talking Book..theres no Superstitution...there's no 'I Believe (When I Fall In Love)" Lol i just laughed bc i know the type of ppl who only like Stevie for Superstition don't really like much of his other music. Theyre usually the type who dont even like soul & funk, so to me their opinion bears no damn weight. FFF is a GENIUS album thru & thru.

Stevie was a media darling, they loved him. His musical genius was unrivaled. This was a pre-digital era when true musicianship reigned, few artists could sing & compose as well as, and play as many instruments as well as Stevie. He had no rivalries. In award competition where only peers & industry folks voted, they ceded almost* every award in all categories to him from 1973-1976. Legendary Paul Simon thanked Stevie for not releasing an LP in 1975, allowing Paul to win instead.

I am a big Hov fan and you can't deny his genius. He has put out at least three classical albums, and other albums that are good. However, stevie put out 5 consecutive classic albums. I don't think any artist can say that. Michael Jackson came close with OTW, Thriller, Bad and maybe Dangerous, but Stevie's classic period albums are all certified classics.

What anyone born after 1965 may not realize is that this vinyl LP was pressed with no gaps between the tracks, therefore all tracks flowed into each other in a very specific order. The Finale Experience opened with You Havent Done Nothing on side 1. The finale was this track, Please Dont Go. We would have to wait 25 months before another LP was released by 'the greatest individual talent of the modern music era', Stevie. Know all this as you listen, to experience it as we did back in 1974.

It was more than just some half-decade Love Fest. Stevie helped launch Minnie Riperton, Chaka Khan & Rufus, Denise Williams, Michael Sembello; toured with Rolling Stones, and provided great material for Aretha, Roberta Flack, Jermaine Jackson, Sergio Mendes, Taj Mahal. Musical luminaries from the 50s & 60s enjoyed success in covering his ballads in the 70s & 80s.

Mel, the tempo actually stays the same but he takes the key up a step so it has that feeling of more movement. A common device used in many pop songs but here it's even more effective. He also changes the groove up on drums (him playing btw). Incredible song almost 50 years later from arguably the Greatest contributor to pop music in history.
